What was Wilder trying to tell the ref after being spun around?

Similar to the Hearns/Hagler fight. I can recall watching the highlights of that stoned with one of my mates and we were in bits laughing for minutes. It's like they both forgot they were in the ring with someone who's just about to knock their head clean off! Lol

 

He was continuing the PSA Zab Judah started over 20 years ago. "Don't ever play with matches"

 

That shot might have grazed his face but it sure didn’t graze his nose.

Seems like a common story in boxing and sports in general - those who were on top for a long time just keep going well past their prime and can't admit to themselves that they're no longer what they once were until it smacks them in the face repeatedly. So many once great fighters (and athletes in general) start racking up more losses than wins towards the end. It's always sad to see.

I know prime Wilder's "talent" is debatable, but i think the heavyweight division will be a little emptier without him.

He almost looked like he was complaining about an eye gouge or something. Most likely that punch dazed him and it was a confused reaction as a result. Ref stopped him from getting heavily KOed down the line, imo.

 

I believe it was a heavyweight fight within the last two years where the guy was not only out-on-his-feet but was throwing air punches or pumping his fists in victory even after the ref stopped the fight. Anyone recall who that was?

 

He was blindsided by that shot because he turned around blind and didn't see it coming but it was a legitimate punch. Zang apparently is a monster hitter and weighed 280 lbs, I was impressed that Wilder managed to get up to his feet by the Count of 10 on steady legs even though mentally he had checked out.

This is not someone who has a bad chin, the guy with the iron jaw Joyce couldn't get up once Zang banged him.

If this is the final sight of Wilder we see in the ring then good that he went out on his shield vs Fury and then Zang.
