How will Deontay Wilders legacy be remembered

100% its easier knocking out a tin can then a elite boxer.

 

Just to clarify, I still think there are at least 10 all-time great heavyweights from the past that would whup Lennox.

I’ve heard people say the same about Fury, after the Usyk loss.

Occam’s razor; the simplest explanation is more often than not the correct one. Wilder simply wasn’t “that” guy, and got comfortably outboxed by a top level fighter in Parker, and got starched by a hard hitting world level guy in Zhang. Both profiles of fighter were absent from Wilder’s resume until Fury.

 

He'll be remembered for the Fury trilogy but beyond that he won't be seen in a favourable light. He was protected and avoided unifying against Wlad and then Joshua as well as ducking contenders like Povetkin and Whyte. His resume simply doesn't stack up, he won't be regarded as a great just a titlist that did everything to keep the belt for as long as possible.

 

His trilogy with Fury - which he was thoroughly outclassed in all 3.
His knockout record until then.
His lousy excuses for why he lost such as his ring attire being to heavy for his skinny chicken legs.

Wilder will be remembered for his winning streak , highlight KOs, title defenses, KO Power all while having limited boxing skills. The man always had excitement.

His pure athleticism & power kept him safe in the ring as long as his opposition was C level at best.

I think the best version of Wilder was inside the three fights with Fury.

 

As a case study of what happens when the US goes without an/the actual heavyweight champion for a long time.

 

Wilder will be remembered as an equal opportunity belt holder. Against who else would the likes of Gerald Washington, Artur Szpillka and Duhaupass get title shots?

 

Overachiever and underachiever at the same time.

 

Was a slugger who was matched smartly and became a belt holder, and when he stepped up he was found out, Definitely not a HOFer IMHO he never beat anybody of note.

 

Don't hate the good old U S of A, just because a huge percentage of the greatest Fighters that have ever lived come from here.

He doesn't really have a legacy. His best wins are an ancient Ortiz and Stiverne. It's not even a wafer-thin resume; it's no resume at all. He was badly beaten by all the top fighters he met. Not only beaten but, apart from Parker, knocked out by all of them, and even Parker badly hurt him. Some might say the referee saved Wilder there by not stopping the fight, even though Wilder was unable to protect himself and Parker landed shots on his head at will.

Long story short, he will be remembered as a protected paper champion with zero depth on his resume. And as a consequence, Fury's legacy took a nosedive as well, as it should. To say his wins over Wilder aged like fine milk is an understatement.
