I was one of the most vocal guys repeating that Wilder would destroy Aj, as Aj is too afraid to get tagged by anyone since Ruiz I am also very vocal on posters not admitting when they are wrong and giving credit where it is due Now, Wilder may have slipped a little, but he was in with a 40 something guy who looks 50 Fury made Wilder look good in the 3rd fight by coming in like an unprepared slob similar to the Ngannou fight. That fight was literally just that, a fight with very little actual boxing The Wilder 2 performance was good from Fury, but very overrated in hindsight. Wilder can't box, especially moving backwards and only has a right hand. Any top boxer should be able to do the same Parker exposed his limitations and Zhang put a coffin nail on them Wilder could still may have a chance with the chisoras, or whytes if he catches them, but Aj? No, Aj would break him. He's way to fast, also extremely powerful and is the way better boxer. He would likely pull an Ngannou on Wilder in all honesty I hate eating crow, doesn't taste good, but it is necessary sometimes! Till this day!!
Agreed which is why they avoided the fight for as long as possible. You have to be deluded to think it was Joshua who avoided the fight, just look at their resumes, one takes risks the other doesn't unless there is an angle. Joshua stops Wilder inside 5 rounds it wouldn't be competitive.
The Joshua who was tentative against Franklin and who took 7 rounds to get rid of Hellanius. Ofcourse AJ would have gotten rid of a shot Wilder that we are seeing today but the fight would have been exciting if it took place at the right time in 2018-19
Anthony Joshua pre Usyk 2 would move in straight lines, his fluidity was lacking plus his confidence was low after the Ruiz loss, if Wilder fought him then or pre Ruiz I give wilder a good shot. Post Robert Garcia I think AJ became a much better and rounded fighter and would favour AJ hugely. Revisionist history is great, but you’re forgetting how little respect Wilder had for what was coming back and the complete authority he threw his hands with. Plus his heart is unquestionable, even with the events of Saturday, Zhang caught Wilder with a clean shot, similar to what stopped Joyce but Wilder still got up albeit completely out of it. It’s a shame we didn’t get the fight when both were at the top of the mountain.
Yes Wilder "only has a right hand" as you state, well only HAD a right hand if the Parker and Zhang bouts are considered. But it was helluva right hand, and Joshua certainly went through period of his reign where engaging with enemy fire was avoided. However the AJ vs Wilder fight never happened, so we will never know the outcome, but it would have been a nice litttle earner for both.
I feel like people are a bit too reactionary. In 2017-18 AJ-Wilder would have been close to a 50/50 fight, it could have come down to whoever landed first would win. Yes, you can definitely argue that AJ with better boxing fundamentals would have the edge against a man with one punch who can’t fight going backwards. But 2017-18 Wilder would not hesitate to throw and he had every chance of hurting AJ. I’d also say AJ has improved as a boxer quite significantly post-Ruiz, compared to the more raw version in 2017-18.
You guys just flip flop your opinions based on latest results. If Wilder smoked Zhang, you would say Wilder kills AJ.
No point talking about fights that didn't happen. Both guys could have won but it will go down in the history books with back and forth from both fighters on who ducked whom.
I've also always fancied AJ over Wilder. Wilder is more explosive but AJ is simply the better technical boxer.
I've always favored AJ in a hypothetical fight with Wilder. He's levels above him. A few years go I would still give Wilder a puncher's chance. Today I don't even give him that, he looks shot to pieces. He should've retired after the third Fury fight.
Would have been a one sided beat down. Hence why Wilder ****ed multiple offers to fight AJ. The only thing thinner than Wilder's legs is his resume.
