Let's just ignore the fact that Hrgovic has been calling out the big names for freaking ages and his frustration at not being able to secure better opposition has been plain to see for a long time. I think that's actually caused him to fall out of love with the sport.

Criticize him all you like but don't act like he hasn't been ducked and avoided or that his handlers haven't invested in him like they should have, including E-Hearn. Imagine the backing he would've got if he was one of E-Hearn's favourites like AJ?

And AJ got bounced up and down off the canvas like a yo-yo by a walking blob in his first loss and got his ass schooled by a blown up CW in his second in his own backyard where everything was heavily stacked in his favour. He's lost x 3 and has only ever fought once in his opponent's backyard and he lost that fight. And he has the kind of backing, investment, training team and set up Hrgovic can only dream of.

J-Park lost to AJ, Whyte, got KO'd by Big Joe Joyce, won a gift against Chisora in the first fight and arguably lost to Fat Andy and Hughie.

And he has been dropped almost half a dozen times and has been taken the distance and looked poor in many fights by low or lower level opponents but he's seen as one of the very best in the division now and most deserving of a title fight

The Dosser has lost x 4, 3 via KO or stoppage

Dubois has lost x 2 via stoppage and it would be x 3 had it not been for corruption and home cooking and it would've been early to a blown up CW

    Belly has lost

Big Bang has 2 losses albeit one controversial. That being said, it was a razor-close loss to a ''bum'' and Big Bang KO'd The Dosser and Big Joe Joyce and would've clearly done the same to J-Park had he actually let his hands go

Bakole got stopped by a CW

These are all guys in the current top 10 or just outside it

But Hrgovic is done if he doesn't get himself a quality trainer who actually analyses his flaws, works on correcting them and instead of gassing him up him up and telling he's an animal actually tries to make serious improvements in numerous areas to make him a much better version of himself.

The fact he's literally made zero improvements from the amateurs to the pros, or has even regressed from the amateurs, speaks volumes about that. His trainers have done nothing for him in terms of helping him improve.

Did you see any improvements from the Big Bang fight to the McKean one to Dubois one? If anything he got worse and his gas tank surely has because it was terrible against Dubois. There are a lot of raw ingredients to work with. He has an iron chin, good skills, good power although it could be much better, size and with the right training team and S&C program he can make big improvements.

He has to stop believing his own hype too. Some of it is his own fault (arrogance, overconfidence) but he's actually a good guy and I feel sorry for him because he has been mismanaged and very unlucky. Even coming from a small country like Croatia with little to no boxing scene or decent sparring over there has made everything that much harder for him from the get-go.

Points from Gol.hr major Croatian sport portal (The order goes from the latest to oldest, so read from the bottom).

    EDIT: more

"I don't have much to say, I missed the biggest opportunity in my career. I lost, I still think so, to a worse fighter. I was confident that I would beat him, I was confident that this was my time and that everything was in order for me to become world champion. I was at the gates of heaven. Why this happened, I will need some time to think about everything."

"Right now I feel like I don't know if I'll ever box again. I said I'd retire if I lost, I'm not far from thinking that. But I cannot retire in defeat. I have nothing on the table, I am free for the first time in my career, said a disappointed Hrgović."

"This is the first time in the 18 years that I have been in boxing that I have had the opportunity to stand on the ball. Even when I wasn't boxing, I was training, negotiating, something was always happening. I don't have a contract, I'm free and I can take as much time as I need. \\\"

"Turki came to him in the hospital and said that he was satisfied with the performance and that a new opportunity awaits him as soon as he is ready. Now it's all up to Filip, when he will be ready and if he still wants to do it. He claims he needs rest.

Filip currently does not know what to do next. He mentioned his statement that he would retire in case of defeat and added that this is how he currently feels. He did not see Dubois as some rank fighter who could beat him. But he adds that he cannot withdraw in this way and that he will try one more time.

\"Perhaps deep inside I may have underestimated him a little, but he also showed something that he had never seen before. He received a lot of blows and did not give up. We saw in earlier matches that he would give up when he received blows. When it all comes together , unfortunately we are here, you welcomed me as a loser.\"

\"I knew I was in a deficit, but I kept going no matter what. Not only did the illness and injury disrupt me physically, but it also casts doubt on whether you are ready and whether everything will be fine. The fight is here, the opportunity is here, let's go so what happens. I believed it would be enough.\"

Filip believed that Dubois would not last more than three rounds, adding that he was carried away by the atmosphere and spent too much in those first rounds.

He should keep fighting for that Saudi money. And come in prepared next time. Don’t wait too long though.

He'll always have Dubrovnik to hang out in. A lot more picturesque than Zagreb.

I think he knew he was beat after he landed about 3 or 4 solid right hands and Dubois kept coming.

What's the problem? I've been to Dubrovnik and Zagreb. Hrgo is from Zagreb; if he retires I suggest he stay in Dubrovnik. A beautiful town. Put me on ignore if you don't like my comments.

Turki should make Hrgovic vs Makhmudov fight. Easy comeback win for Hrgovic because Makhmudov has ZERO skills and boxing IQ whatsoever and not much heart as well but is still recognisable name due to all the hype that surrounded his name for last few years

That would be a good fight. No reason to write both of them off right away after their first loss.

Doesn’t sound like Hrgovic has the guts for world level boxing. He has the talent to come back stronger than ever if he’s willing to go back to the drawing board and make changes. The body will only go as far as the mind will let it.

I could be way off base here but I get the sense that since his father passed away Hrgovic's heart isn't really in boxing as much as it was. He always seems kinda apathetic about things.
