Hrgovic himself said yesterday on the press conference Turki visited him and said that there is opportunity waiting for him when he becomes ready. I took it as a good sign when Hrgovic also said: I cant retire with this defeat.

Ok, then. What do we know, and does anybody care. Dubois is 26 and Hrgovic 31, they will meet again.

I expect every federation to kick out Hrgovic out of the Top 10, but Ring updated their ranking and just switched Dubois and His place. So he is tehnicaly still in top 10, by boxrec his number 20.

No-names for Hrgovic would destroy his career at this point, he must be matched with at least semi-strong opponents. At least 3 in my imagined tier 3, one from my tier 2 and Tier 1 should be Dubois, not because he is S-rank fighter, but because he must avenge that loss.
    • Tier 3: Efe Ajagba, Arslanbek Makmudov, Tony Yoka, Alen Babic are my go to, but what do I know.
    • Tier 2: Zhang, Anderson or Kabayel
    • Tier 1: Dubois
We are talking about years, Dubois will get even more expirenced after Joshua fight and truly enter his prime. How does the rematch go. I for one think Hrgovic cant go on withouth passing Dubois.

It's really difficult to predict. Hrgovic was landing at will early on. But he had a stupid game plan, and needs to take training seriously. He effectively punched himself out by the 6th round, and was gassing much earlier than that.

The difference in conditioning will always be a massive factor between him and Dubois. Also it would depend on the referee.

I think Hrgovic can come again. IF that loss was a wake up call. He's never been a high energy fight, but he looked soft. As above, fitness is a massive factor in any sport, but boxing involves taking punches for 12 rounds as well

I doubt Tier 1 or 2, as you list them, will want to fight him even coming off a loss. He will need to rebuild

Dubois stops him again, Hrgovic seems lost in big fights and doesn't have the necessary power to finish Dubois, so the outcome would be the same...

I was thinking more like steps, he needs to defeat 3 fighters from Tier 3 to be able to challenge Tier 2. And that over the years

Yeah Zhang got hit, endured 12 rounds, McKean got hit for 12 rounds, but he is mid fighter, and Dubois got hit more than Zhang and Mckean togheter in first 3 rounds.

How does he not have power. I dont understand it. He is even weaker than Usyk.

He might even have less power than Usyk, he needs muscle mass urgently...

I suspect he has almost no chance against anyone with a decent chin. Zhang has a decent chin, but he is probably the only highly ranked fighter with worse stamina issues than Hrgovic. I doubt he has the power to keep any of the top guys off him, and as soon as anyone with power hits him he seems to want to turn away. He doesn't look like he has the power to keep the top guys off him and he certainly doesn't have the stamina to live with them in the championship rounds

He needs time to rebuild, he is young enough to come again, he is still physically in his prime. He needs to learn from his previous mistakes with his career, he was too inactive, didn't slowly raise the level of his opposition to create opportunities to learn and grow as a fighter.

First thing he needs to do is fire Shields and find a new trainer one that won't coddle him, one that will kick his ass into gear and force him to challenge himself in training. Then he needs to take a note out of Parker's book to rebuild by fighting often, Parker fought 4 times in 2023, Hrgovic needs to do the same, be active, it doesn't matter who he fights as long as he has something to build towards to get as many training camps as possible, giving him opportunities to improve and improve his conditioning.

Then once he's had those easy but regular fights he needs to step up a level. Guys won't avoid him now he's been beaten so hopefully he won't have the same issues as before. Maybe Bakole will finally dare to fight him.

Will he ever be ready to rematch Dubois? Hard to say it really comes down to him, if he wants it, is he willing to make the sacrifices and changes needed to reach that next level. He's been far too comfortable for too long sitting on his mandatory position taking easy fights. He also didn't learn from the Zhang fight when he had a really tough time. He can't just keep doing what he's done before, it's not good enough, something much change.

Hrgovic really needs to get his head into the right place, if he sorts himself out Turki will give him opportunities that did not exist a year ago. He just looks so disinterested these days.

Hrgovic does have the tools to beat Dubois in a rematch, for a start he needs to make sure he has stamina for 12 rounds like Usyk. To be honest, a lot of amateur sportsmen have better stamina than that. But Dubois keeps improving so it's a tough ask.

That being said, I don't think avenging the loss is crucial though, all the top guns except Usyk have losses that they did not or could avenge. Dubois himself hasn't tried to avenge his loss to Joyce. Someone else such as AJ or Zhang could blast Dubois out, or Parker might decision him, etc. Hrgovic just needs to keep beating the decent opponents Turki gives him until he gets another big chance vs an old Usyk or AJ or someone else, or a rematch.

I don't see why there would be a rematch, at least in the near future. I expect Hrgovic to drop his level of opponents back down to the McKeans and DeMoris of the world before he gets a Dubois rematch or fights another top 10/15 opponent.

It depends - will he get a blister on his foot or will his dog eat his skipping rope this time?

I don't think Hrgovic has the stamina to go 12 rounds, and Dubois has proven that he can take his best shots and have the stamina to come after him all night long. TKO in round 9-12.

It's difficult because even though this fight caught people's intrigue, Dubois wasn't seen as a step up at all.

He needs to fight more of the fringe top ten guys and actually improve his skills.

Sitting on that Mando spot for two years was such an awful decision. It's set him back and untold amount of time.

Hrgovic needs to learn how to avoid those illegal headbutts from Daniel "Dirty" Dubois.

Klitschko was never cut by head butts after the Wiliamson fight, he learned to lift his head a certain way when an opponent was going for it.

I actually think Hrgovic should’ve conceded the early rounds (which I thought he would) and start piecing Dubois up when he gassed, but Hrgovic gassed himself out, if he paces himself and lets Dubois tire, and he’ll start piecing him up mid and late rounds and probably win.
