I don't think so. Ali made minor adjustments against Mildenberger, after a couple of rounds, which effectively restored the advantages he'd typically enjoy against orthodox fighters. Like almost every other opponent of Ali's - particularly those in Ali's prime - Usyk wouldn't be able to track and keep up with Ali and, in turn, would be on the receiving end of a fairly explicit mugging.
Joshua has his flaws, but he has very good fundamentals for a guy that size. Fury makes a LOT of technical mistakes, but has quite amazing agility and mobility for a man his size.
Which he is lol. The super heavies he's fighting are much more skilled then any super heavy Ali beat.
Your opinion, I'm ok with it. But me being in the sport and around it, for over 40 yrs now, I see it differently. I haven't seen a really skilled super heavyweight since Lewis, and the Kleickoes brothers.
I know there's a stigma about seeking help from a mental health professional, especially among males that are a fan of a combat sport with a perceived level of toughness, but if someone thinks Usyk would be even close to competitive against prime Ali I'm here to say there is really nothing wrong with reaching out maybe calling a crisis hotline, everything will be ok
Well then you're just objectively wrong maybe get those eyes checked old man. Fury and Josuha are just as good as the Klitschko brothers and in some ways better.
Worst boxers then Usyk have been competitive with Ali. Worse boxers then Usky have beaten Ali. Sorry to burst your nostalgia bubble but Ali isn't invincible he was a technically flawed fighter who made up for his technical flaws with his athleticism but that won't be enough against Usyk who can keep up with Ali and has much better technique.
I would agree that Joshua and Fury are a notch below Lewis. I think they are closer to Vlad and Vitali in terms of skill with Joshia being more athletically gifted out of all of them but he is not the technician that Lewis was. Fury is just big and difficult style wise but I also think he is sloppy and undisciplined. Uysk has the problem of simply being in a crappy era for the sport. Boxing isn't a crossover sport anymore and he will never have the popularity that Louis, Ali, Dempsey etc enjoyed. With that said, he is insanely talented and always focused/in peak shape. He is great for the body of work that he has that goes back to what he did as an amateur. Again, that just shows how different the sport is today than Ali's era. Boxing is way more global now with really good Boxing programs in Eastern Europe that simply weren't around in Ali's day. Uysk will never have the amount of pro fights that Ali had but he had three times the amateur fights against international competition. Boxing is just different today. Both are great fighter's with Ali being very deserving of being called the GOAT. With that said, Uysk would be a hand full.
Which incarnation of Ali are we talking about? Prime pre-exile, or prime post-exile? I almost can't decide which would be less bothered by Usyk. The pre-exile version didn't have the craftyness and adaptability of the post-exile version, but he had that superhuman athleticism to make up for it. Just being a slick moving relentless southpaw is probably enough to give anyone fits on its own.
Sure he can worse boxers then him have and he's quick enough and his timing is good enough to be able to deal with Ali as well as having much better technique and being a southpaw. Ali was never invincible even at his best.
