Watching it i thought he was. Looked like a fighter fighting with one hand. Would actually like to know if hes sustained damage to that right arm/shoulder etc at some point. I think more likely hes just gun shy now and scared of whats coming back etc. Once upon a time he had the best right hand in the game. Yet kept backing into the corner to get a beating over again without throwing it once. Madness. He was taking a beating anyway.
There is zero evidence that Wilder was injured in the Zhang fight. There is, however, ample evidence that Wilder is simply not a skilled boxer. And his vaunted right hand had little effect on Zhang.
He has been like that ever since his chin was tested by Fury. It is not the injury. He is terrified to be in the ring.
Wilder didn’t spin of his own volition. Quite simply, Zhang’s power punch turned him. Wilder was virtually out on his feet. Suffice to say, when Louis cracked Buddy Baer with the right hand in their rematch, Buddy also did a “strange” spinny move toward the canvas. Come to think of it, Foreman did that same “strange” pirouette also when Ali dropped the big right on him in round 8, Zaire. Zab Judah arising from the deck just to perform the funky chicken dance before falling down again really takes the cake though. I mean, what was Zab even “thinking” when he did that”?. Very peculiar.
Wilder will always be injured against top opposition, understand?!!! He was always overrated with a padded record, but his fights are entertaining.
Was Zhang injured against Parker? After all he just walked forward and threw nothing for most of the fight.
He doesn't have the belief anymore. His style depended massively on his confidence to land massive accurate right hands with all his weight behind them. He somehow managed to do it a lot without getting brutally countered. Once his confidence was shattered, he hesitates just a bit and misses the opportunities. He does not have the skill level to rely on it and slowly get himself into the fight by employing any kind of strategy. Fighters with skill can work their confidence up by employing a gameplan and landing more and more as the fight goes on. Wilder has none of that. He has to be a frontrunner always. A more skilled fighter that suffered from the same was Roy. Once Tarver shattered his confidence, his whole style was destroyed. Where he would dodge a punch by inches before, now he hesitated and got caught.
