Louis was a bigger dude by then. He had addapted with age into a still decent contender fresh off a win over Jimmy Bivins. Nobody can say Louis was the version he had been as a champion but Louis was still a younger contender than Larry Holmes had been when beating a still relevant Ray Mercer. Louis was beating relevant men like Savold and Cesar Brion in pretty much the same style as anyone around at that time.

Put Cesar Brion, Jimmy Bivins and Lee Savold up against Ray Mercer that Larry beat and I doubt Mercer goes 3-0.

Louis boxed nearly 100 exhibition fights during the war years and is plain as day that he was nowhere near the force he had been pre war on film. He’s a greater heavyweight than Marciano. He reigned longer and fought more styles, however I will say this Marciano would have always posed a problem for Louis. Not saying prime Louis doesn’t win, but his track record shows he struggled with fighters that fought out of a crouch. Schmeling bent at the waist and fought in a semi crouch, Godoy was a full on crouch fighter that applied pressure and so was Marciano. All of them had success against Louis. However I feel Marciano would get too busted up to beat prime Louis. Imo

I’m not sure many HWs hit as hard as little Satterfield. I think results speak louder than words or opinions. If one fighter knocked out numerous hall of famers and contenders I’d pick said fighter over one who knocked out 99% tomato cans and one contender.

It’s hard for people to understand this. Marciano didn’t get hit w big right hands because his style negated the punch. Even if people did land a right it was often off the center line or they themselves were off balance. When I watch Layne or Lastarza or Walcott or Charles fight other people they look like different fighters. Because they didn’t have to throw punches at strange angles to land anything. They weren’t constantly thrown off balance by Marciano’s constant coming forward and pushing. There’s a reason the man was never knocked out but for some odd reason these people can’t bring themselves to admit Marciano was a good fighter not just a brawler who tripped over his own feet.

I asked you to pick one of 2 choices and then you went on an irrelevant tirade as usual.

Louis butchered Godoy in the rematch and massacred Schmeling in their 2nd fight.

Marciano was not a good fighter.

    He was a great fighter.

However that has nothing to do with Louis not hitting him with right hands.
Watch their fight and tell me how many right crosses Louis threw?

Absolutely Louis was the best fighter ever in rematches. He learned from those first encounters. However he did struggle the first go around with all 3 of these guys. Someone said he struggled with Galento too - I can’t agree on that - he got caught with a flash knockdown by an admittedly powerful squat puncher but he got up and dominated Galento.

No he used the jab brilliantly but he couldn't bring the right into play because he couldn't pull the trigger any more.

Louis had 10 comeback fights he stopped 3 of his opponents.
Third rater Andy Walker who was stopped by tko in the 10th and last round,Walker was stopped 10 times.
Freddie Beshore who was stopped on cuts.
And Lee Savold who was even more used up than Louis was.Savold would have one more fight get stopped and be suspended for life by the AC.

I was referring to Moore but Satterfield knocked out a few. Oakland Billy Smith and Cleveland Williams. He also KO other decent contenders who just missed the international mark like Baker, Oma, brothers etc

How many people consistently ever connected w right hands on Marciano? Please show me any of his fights where opponents even threw a normal amount? The film is there. Opponents didn’t throw it often because the opening wasn’t there
