I have a higher bar than that for ATG.

I think he could be considered an ATG Light Heavyweight.

I love Saad one of my favorite fighters and was always in a war and fun to watch. He’s in no shape or form a ATG not even close.

A fight with Michael Spinks would have been interesting but they were co champions for a few months only.

I think Spinks would win handily but if Saad Muhammad had stayed a couple more years as champion, i can definitely see it being an HBO fight, back when HBO was it as far as boxing fights, like Spinks-Qawi was later.

He like Arturo Gatti, Bobby Chacon and Wilfredo Gomez, risked a longer career in order to entertain us.

Had he been a proper boxer, like Michael Spinks or Muhammad Ali, for example, who knows how better he could have been.

Top five, just below the great Tommy loughran and above such notables as Michael Spinks

I'd say he was a great fighter at light heavyweight, yeah.

Yes because of his incredible heart, power, and durability. HIs fight with Yaqui Lopez at Atlantic City is arguably the greatest competitive back and forth fight of all time.

I’m not hugely into ranking fighters in weight classes (I’ve gone it a time or two but always say ‘if you asked me again tomorrow or next week, the list might look different’) and I have no particular criteria for where the line les for ATG, but Saad was an ATG warrior with a heart bigger than Philadelphia.

That’s great enough for me. He’ll always have a special place in my heart for the grit, determination and sheer willpower he displayed.

He deserves to be in the hall of fame but that isn’t always the equivalent of being an all time great. Mathew Franklin had a very good career. But light heavyweight is a very tough division to secure an ATG spot when you’re in the company of Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Bob Foster, Billy Conn, Michael Spinks, Roy Jones and numerous others

He was initially. But like Wilfredo Gomez he became intoxicated with his
    power.
