Is Usyk really great or only shows how horrible the current HW division is?

This era is not weak at all. Usyk became undisputed because he's an ATG. And it's not like he 12-0'd everyone: Fury, AJ 2 and Chisora were competitive against him.

Boxing fans need to stop being overly negative, this is a perfectly fine era, Usyk, Fury, Joshua, Zhang, Parker, along with Wilder, Ruiz, Povetkin, Whyte from a few years ago is solid.

This is one of the strongest division with all kind of fighters. The big problem is, the whole division is stalled, because of useless rematches and guys who are getting a free pass to not defend their belts against their mandatory and the top ranked contenders.
The division is full of quality and i would say the most stacked one currently in Boxing.

And Usyk, AJ and Fury(while i don't like him at all), Zhang and few others will crush most of the past Greats, mainly because of size difference, new methods, etc, but still.

And let's not forget Usyk is well, well past his best year, and in my eyes is a shadow of himself. He become Undisputed at 37,5 years old. At that age most of the other Greats was losing to average journeyman's.

Lewis didn't really separate himself until he beat Holyfield tbf. Defended his title 3 times, lost, regained, defended it twice.

Usyk is just really that good. Skill level top notch as it needs to be to do what hes done. Fury a great fighter....just come up against an unbelievable fighter.

The heavyweight era hasnt been that bad just the depth thats been lacking and most of them avoided too many tough opponents to be considered greats.

Usyk hasnt. Usyk will end up the only true great of the top two divisions imo. Fury probably could have been but didnt take on the right kind of competition to be considered a true great. Even if he beat usyk who gave away every advantage possible to prove his greatness.

He was robbed in the 2008 Olympics against the eventual semi-finalist that year

Beat Mchunu (17-2) on neutral soil

    Beat Chisora (32-9) in England

    This content is protected

He took up boxing at 15 y/o

He didn't even turn pro until he was almost 27 y/o

In a 10 year career he has unified the CW division in 15 fights

The HW division in 22 fights

Winning and unifying all his world titles sans 1 in his opponent's backyards sans his last title which if we're being honest might as well have been in his opponent's backyard

He has never had home advantage in a single one of his world title fights or fights at the world level with the exception of once and that was fought in a neighbouring country to his own

He has always sought out the best and has never ducked or dodged anyone

Not only that but he has routinely sought out the best in their backyards where the deck is stacked against him or heavily against him

He wins all his fights via clean boxing. No fouling, no deck-stacking, no ducking certain styles or punchers, no stinking out the joint, no refusing to sign on the dotted line unless the playing field is stacked in his favour

He's been exemplary and everything he has achieved amateur and pro has not only been achieved the right and honourable way but it's also been achieved the hard way, treading a path so many others and other greats would never even contemplate treading

Apply the aforementioned to your current favs and many of those who came before him and see how ill-fitting the shoe is

Every world class opponent he's fought was 36 or younger and let's not forget he just unified the HW division at 37 y/o

    AJ 31 and 32
    Belly 35
    Dubois 25
    Chisora 36
    Gassiev 24
    Briedis 33
    Huck 32
    Glowacki 30
    Bellew 35
    Hunter 28
    Mchunu 28

All of them beaten in their backyards or on the road sans Dubois which, again, was in Poland

Belly, AJ II, Mchunu were on neutral soil but the first two weren't really neutral if we're being honest and he was robbed by one of the judges in the AJ fight and also by one of the judges in the Belly fight too

He beat 6 of the 7 world champions he's fought in their backyards, the 7th being Belly in Saudi

    GOAT GOAT :deal:

And as much as I love and admire Holyfield as a fantastic cruiser moving through the gears to heavyweight in spectacular fashion...Usyk did it at a much older age, AND, with far more miles on the clock...

Past-best Usyk, then, should be used as a REAL general yardstick in the current heavyweight era...

    He's cleaned up...fact!

Sit down Frank before I put you down

Savage low blow from a murderous punching much bigger Brit with Brit power

One moment of controversy in his career

Like I said, compare that to all those who came before him, the greats and legends of the sport, and he's practically a goddamn saint and his career is spotless

    He's really, really great.

It's actually a pretty good division, not 70's or 90's level, but better than the fat/drug-addict 80s, the post-Lennox Lewis apocalyptic wasteland, the Klitschko waltz era, or the Fury/Joshua Wilder split mini-era.

Starting in about 2020 with that second Fury-Wilder fight after the hiatus, you had four claimants to being the best in the world actually fight each other in a mini-tournament that Usyk won.

    1. Fury- The guy who unseated Klitschko

    2. Joshua- Picked up the pieces of the division when Fury disappeared, beating Klit, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker, Martin, and split with Ruiz

    3. Wilder- Ruled over his WBC pocket universe, which was fraudulent but conned some people

    4. Uysk- Had been a dominant and undisputed cruiser champ

These four got it on and crowned a true champ between them. Kudos to them, congratulations to the fans who saw some great fights, and how that is bad, I sure as hell don't know.

Heavyweight is always the weakest division in boxing because big guys don't generally make the best boxers. But this is probably the strongest the division has been since the 90s and Usyk has proven himself as the strongest in this era.

Usyk's resume is 2nd to none of the current boxers, beat all the big names in cruiserweight then went up and beat probably the two best HW's back to back and now the Dubois win is aging well.

Size means alot in boxing and Usyk is very under sized against the current heavyweights, its amazing stuff.

division is weak. it happens. doesnt mean youre nostalgic, doesnt mean youre hating, just means the overall skills across the board are lower now than in previous eras. sure, you might find 2-5 year stretches where most were ass, but put the last 10 years against any other 10 year stretch, and its ass.
the second best of the era was beaten by a circus fat man. the 3rd best was beaten by an mma fighter making his boxing debut. we dont even know who 4th best is cause wilder avoided the parkers of the division. doesnt mean they arent fun to watch. modern media makes it easier to get emotionally attached to their story, but they just arent as good at the boxing trade.

Well in the 70s every top was a cruiser , so wouldn't your argument mean that division was awful also?

Heavyweights of the past were cruisers.
