Some guys just had punches which sounded great. Toney-McCallum 1 always had quite heavy sounding punches from both I thought for example. Whose punches' sound do you enjoy hearing?
I am not sure that we are comparing like for like here. The recording equipment and other factors could have an impact. In some of the older fights the sound might even have been added later.
Agree with @janitor that equipment and how/where a fight is micc’ed has a lot to do with it. But as far as individual punch sounds go, that right hand Thomas Hearns put on Roberto Duran sounded like a shotgun going off.
Mark 'Too Sharp' Johnson. I saw him at the Forum and his body punches sounded like a drum solo at a KISS concert.
James Scott’s too — like a bass drum in a marching band. There’s that line Paulie screams from the corner in one of the Rocky movies, “Punch his lungs out,” and that’s what Scott did to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.
Cleveland Williams left hook 41 seconds in to this video sounded pretty impressive to me, as it apparently did to the commentator - This content is protected
