Bingo. Elite boxers, like any other elite, fall under a bellcurve. The higher up the tree you go, the thinner the branches get. Proving you're somewhere not far from the top is not nearly enough to claim you're right at the top - the odds are against it, so it has to be proven... And that's exactly where Tank is. Statistically, given his resume, it's only right and proper to doubt the claims to greatness - no hate required. If he proves more, then his style indeed makes him well suited to beating Hatton... But until he proves it? It's insulting to claim he beats someone much better proven than him, IMHO.
I remember back in the day in the lead up to the Pac VS Hatton fight this site was inundated with Hatton's low IQ army of fans boasting how he would walk trough Pac and he would stop him with a bodyshot amongst other silly things. I kept saying to them that their boy was going to get destroyed and I was right. The easiest fight pick I've ever made.
Cant tell if serious? Hatton was a casual fan's dream. Phone booth, rough-house tactics, come forward fighter who has all heart. He had ATG quick feet too which were severely overlooked. He got really far considering severe limitations
He's overrated. Ppl talk **** about Hamed and his resume and then hype Hatton to the high heavens when he had weaker resume and wasnt half the fighter Naz was. But one was viewed as being a douche and the other was the happy go lucky man of the ppl and a lot of guys can't put fighters personalities aside when judging them for better and for worse thats why one is hated and the other is loved.
The Hatton fanboys clearly have warped your views on Hatton, yeah fanboys are annoying, they allow support of a fighter cloud their judgement, but all you are really doing is lessen Pac's achievement in beating Hatton. Hatton is a good win for Pac, especially how he did it. It's this win along with the Cotto win that got many people thinking he was P4P number 1 as he beat Hatton so much more convincingly than Mayweather did. By denigrating Hatton, you denigrate Pacquiao.
Pac is great due to his overall body of work just like Floyd. If all they did was beat Hatton and not much else nobody would rate them as the greats that they are.
What's that gotta do with anything here tho? Matias isn't MP... Losing to Pac means nothing.. he's one of the ATGs.. and Hatton by that point had had more alcohol & meat pies in him than a prime John Candy .. he had changed trainers to Floyd Sr (which was a fkin terrible fit) & had turned into such a media darling he thought he was more of a stand up comedian than a boxer.. the guy had gone soft & fat sitting on his own laurels.. but regardless, every fighter has fanboys.. so what? No one cares that you picked MP.. it wasn't a crazy call was it.. Prime Pac was generational .. doesn't take away from the fact that Hatton for a period tore his way through 140 becoming the lineal champion in the process and booked his future place in the HOF.. wheras Matias has yet to beat anyone with a pulse.. i bet he loses again soon
True but your still saying what is recognised as one of Pac better wins is overrated just because you've let some fan boys in the past get under your skin and create an emotional dislike for a fighter. That diminishes his achievements even if only a little. For years I was saying Spence was overrated, was told I was wrong that he'd beat Bud and when I was proved right I took satisfaction from that what I didn't do was become petty and gain and irrational dislike of a fighter based on how toxic their fans are and then say Spence was always a bum or vastly overrated, overrated yes but Spence is still a good fighter, just not on the level his fans hoped he was. You are not being objective here and your not even trying to hide it. How can we take your opinion seriously and for us to agree with you when you have shown yourself not to be objective.
I don't dislike Hatton he's a lovely bloke I just think he's overrated I don't care how that affects Pacs legacy (why should I?). He was a good fighter but far from a great one IMO. Other than a win over a past it Tszyu what else does he have that is so great in his resume to make anyone think he would have an easy time in this era or any era? He would be a good fighter now and more than likely a title holder but would he dominate and beat everyone like some on this thread claim he would hell no he wouldn't. This is Ricky Hatton we are talking about ffs not Roberto Duran or Chavez.
Tank has beaten a lot of good fighters and world champions. Frank Martin is another excellent undefeated fighter put before Tank who I would favour to win if he was fighting someone other than Tank.
