These belts exist because they mean money for their makers. That’s how Boxing works. It isn’t a mark of genuine recognition for a fighter.

Maybe physical prime? If you watch the fights and compare his technique and boxing skill, his prime is obviously amongst the Lewis and Holyfield fights.
Go back and watch how he gets easily outboxed by Morrison and Holmes, with him only winning against Morrison because he gassed out.
If you inserted the 1996 Mercer into those same fights, he'd win easily.

Ruddock. Only foreman picked him to win.

Corrie Sanders, Sam Peters, Juan Carlos Gomez and Adamek are Ortiz/Stiverne/Breazeale's level. Larry Donald, Kirk Johnson, Chisora are a class of Duhaupas/Gerald Washington/Helenius level. I agree that Vitali's resume is better than Wilder's but not that much better. If Wilder's is like C, Vitali's is like C+.

That's a cope they are recognized as World championships therefore if you hold one you are a world champ not sure what's that controversial take. You're picking and choosing who you consider a champ instead of looking at an objective measure i.e if they hold a world championship.

Ortiz and Stiverne(When he was a champ) are a decent level for a heavyweight contender if Wilder had more wins like that he would actually have a decent resume, Breazeale is a bit lower. Also Wilder struggled with fighters on that level while Vitali dominated them all. I think you're undervaluing Chisora he was a decent contender who gave almost everyone he fought a tough fight and had a few close decisions that he could have won I would say he's a bit higher level then the others you put at that level. I would say Vitali is at least a B- not a great resume but the amount of wins and how dominant he was in his wins should be acknowledged.

Poor old Golota, puts Bowe thru hell 2 x then Lewis treats him like trash to be taken out, ASAP.

Physical and all things combined he was better before Lewis fight.
He would never beat Holmes not even at his best, and I am not talking about prime Holmes, that shows how much Holmes is superior to Lewis.

You've got to be ****ing kidding me. I think that prime Holmes would beat prime Lewis (Steward era Lewis), but you've got to be far beyond insane if you think that 90s Holmes was THAT good. He dropped a decision to an inspired McCall, and the same would've likely happened with a '96 Mercer.

I apologise if it comes across as rude & I don’t mean it to be, but you are very naive (& we all were at once, in fairness).

It was the Ruddock fight that made people, including myself, sit up and take notice of Lewis.
Ruddock going 19 rounds almost with Tyson then Lennox just destroyed him. Great fighter.

And that same McCall knocked Lewis out like a drum, and Holmes did better against Mercer who outjabed prime Lewis.
Yes, even past prime Holmes was superior than Lewis.

A very close decision loss to McCall right after McCall knocked out 29 y.o. Lennox Lewis in round 2 has happened when Holmes was 45. Against Mercer Holmes was 41. I'm pretty sure 41 y.o. Holmes would beat McCall the same way he beat Mercer

I wouldn't say 40+ Holmes was superior to Lewis overall considering Lewis' size and power, but technically, skill wise Holmes was far superior to any version of Lennox
