Nat Fleischer thought this to be Louis's finest work.

I think so. This was Louis best filmed fight with Schmeling II being a close second. Louis' triple hook was a peach. Bear seemed to give up. He could not jab ( and he needed to ) and hardly landed anything significant.

Lewis essentially had monocular vision and damaged eyes. If You lose your depth perception, and you're in big trouble. Especially vs a fast handed puncher.

Actually the triple hook Louis threw at Baer was in actuality a penta hook. Louis missed over Baers head the first two hooks.....he then shortened the final three for a spectacular knock down. One of the greatest in hwt boxing history.

You have to almost feel bad for Jack Sharkey being the Louis' first fight post Schmeling.

This was to me, along with Schmeling 2, the finest showing of Louis's career....his footwork in that Baer fight would never be seen again...he just looked perfect tome.

I though the short shuffle he displayed vs Tony Galento to get into position after he'd landed his crushing first punch and land the killer left hook was the best I've seen in heavyweight boxing.
As one scribe put it " you couldve counted to 10 while Tony was In the air"

The final two blows of the bout by Louis were the best of the night. Nearly decapitated Galento. Just brutal to watch. Freight train blows.

He certainly dispatched a very formidable foe in impressive fashion and while being in an early stage of his career
