I think the Joshua fight would be good. Both powerful but bit flawed and both seem to have quite big vulnerabilities still.
I like Dubois. I think AJ will destroy him though, he's far too open, I mean taking those right hands each and every time.... I think he needs a few more fights if that is even an option, he's still young. That seems a bit too cautious I guess but a bad KO could wreck his career at this point, he's not rounded enough of a fighter imo.
I think AJ beats him fairly comfortably, Dubois takes a lot of shots, in pretty much every fight he has. But take the money innit? He'll not earn that amount for anyone else would he? Maybe Fury
I have often criticised Dubois' heart but you can't deny he has been up for the big fights recently. I like it when a fighter doesn't get caught up on taking a loss- it's not the end of your career if you get beat. I think Joshua should beat him but he's got age on his side unlike most of the top heavies at the moment so can come again
Dubois is turning into a kind of modern-day Frank Bruno. Bruno could talk a wee bit more (although not much) but had the luxury of mainstream media to help him out - Harry Carpenter and the BBC made his career as much as anyone else. Other than that the attributes aren't that far apart - not quite full world level, not quite the best in Britain. If AJ had any personality you could make a "True Brit" fight out of it like Bruno-Lewis but sadly we're just going to end up with two cockney barrow boy promoters front and centre instead.
Dubois is likeable but has no where near the charisma Bruno did, I cant see the whole country behind him like that. Frank gets underrated a bit I think, at this stage I'd say he was a lot better than Dubois, he was in against tough competition in his era and held his own despite the loses. Tyson would have killed Dubois in round one, Lewis's right hand wouldn't have done him any favours either. yeah as an event, AJ v Dubois is a pigmy in comparison to the battle of Britain that was Lewis v Bruno, great fight as well.
He has a great chance against Joshua. People are still too awed by Joshua, for some reason. Of course, Dubois might get sparked out and destroyed if he leaves himself too wide open. But the same is true of Joshua too. Dubois just won against Hrgovic. When was the last time Joshua beat someone of Hrgovic or Dubois' level? When was the last time Joshua beat a proper boxer with the strength and power of Dubois? Dubois, in his current form at age 26/27, is very possibly far better than anyone Joshua ever knocked out.
That's true and why I was thinking "modern day". People just aren't mass celebrities like they used to be, because media spreads them so thin. Joshua for the most part isn't a massive celebrity like Bruno was, despite being way more successful. Dubois could find a niche through an all-Brit fight at Wembley which would be mainstream news for a week at least. He's the nice underdog and ought to come off OK. When he fought Joyce he was on ITV breakfast and came across like a shy lad that just left school!
I think you run the risk over massively over rating Dubois level based on the Hrgovic result. Hrgovic has been in cruise control his entire professional career, and massively regressed as a result of being fed a steady diet of over matched journeyman and walking punching bags. He took Dubois way too lightly and could not fight for more than 4 rounds. We are talking here about the same Dubois who was destroyed by a very basic Joe Joyce. Who wanted to quit vs Lerena after being dropped multiple times in the 1st round, then managing to turn it around as Lerena did not throw a single punch in the next round and laid down suspiciously to take the L. Anthony Joshua is a world level fighter, and is far more skilled and composed than Dubois. This will be a fairly routine win for Joshua. Probably gets the stoppage around the 7-10 rounds.
Maybe but when was the last time AJ beat someone as good or better than Dubois? On second viewing of Lerena fight I think it was not a punch that did Dubois in. He twisted his knee.
I agree with you that AJ is overrated and the level of recent opposition has been very poor and worse than most. However, he has the fundamentals and can box 12 rounds at pace. I think if he fights the right type of fight he does break Dubois down. Dubois is less durable than AJ, so his best chance is to hurt AJ early and get the stoppage. If he plays it safe and tries to make it a boxing match then AJ wins comfortably. I personally get the impression that he probably plays it safe due to magnitude of the fight.
