Could David Price have accomplished more?

Taking the Thompson rematch so quickly was beyond stupid. He needed time to heal up and to improve. Instead they carried on as if nothing happened.
But the Teper loss derailed him. He looked really bad for several years after that, arguably getting at least one gift decision.
Could have done a bit more, but not much. World level was way too much for him.

 

For all his faults Price was the first one to hospitalize Dave Allen. I hold that achievement in pretty high regard, similar to Joyce managing to stop Parker.

 

Exactly. Vlad did not have a great chin but next to Price, Vlad was an iron-chinned marathon runner.

 

And as I already answered no because he had too many limitations yeah you could've put him in with weaker opposition to pad his record some more. But as soon as he stepped up he would be wanting just like he was vs Thompson.

Probably the best option for him was to get the big British showdown vs a green Fury I still don't think Price would win though even vs a green Fury.

 

He could have achieved more but aside from a punchers chance he would never have been a world champion.

 

Lol, true and his gas tank was 3 times the sizes of Price's. As I said it's unlikely he would have done better and even with Steward in his corner to minimise his weaknesses like he did for Wlad, I doubt he'd be elite.

 

I had great hopes for Pricey back in the day. I used to argue that he'd beat pork belly slice 24/7...

 

If he had to learned to embrace being a glass cannon more and taken care of his anxiety I think he could have been an interesting wild card with a few upset wins under his belt.

 

He beat Fury in the amateurs, right?

 

He bloody well did!. I'd forgotten all about that one..lol

 

He had some talent obviously. He just hit a ceiling due to the fragility of his mandible.

 

He did indeed. I think most fight fans had him as a realistic possible future World Champion in his early days.


I really liked him as both a fighter and a person. His demise was so acute and sudden though. I never saw that one coming at the time.

 

I almost wonder if there wasn’t something else wrong with Price other than his Glass Jaw? He seemed to just crumble in fights when he was hit even with the weakest of glancing blows. Almost like he had big anxiety problems or something? To me it was something more than his Chin and mental state.

 

He would have required kid gloves management to achieve much more. He was always going to hit the wall.

 

I thought the same lol. I didn't know bugger all about boxing back then if I'm honest. He was big, hit hard and I thought that was 90% of boxing back then. I've learned a lot since then, often picking the wrong winner in fights, but learning from each incorrect pick to get a little bit better at understanding this beautifully violent sport.
