Ye actually I'll go back to 168 .. see how special the likes of Loma actually are? Benavidez is overhyped to fk.. Canelo would school him

Yeah. A little frustrating to watch. Gvozdyk picked it up torward the end of the fight but it was too little, too later.

I could be, with inactivity and age, Gvozdyk just couldn't pull the trigger.

Agreed, Benavidez's punches didn't seem to do much to Gvozdyk at all, and I thought Benavidez was very tired in the last 3rd of the fight. He doesn't look like a solid 175 pounder does he ?

I picked Gvozdyk to win, so Benavidez winning at all is impressive imo, he wasn’t able to break him down the same way he did with guys at 168lbs, but he showed a different skill set, pressuring more how someone like Canelo pressures rather than the Margarito/Hurd esque how he did fight, he was able to edge himself into range and explode on Gvozdyk as Gvozdyk is quite ungainly in mid and close range, he’d subtly get closer by leaning slight forward with his hands up and fire a jab quickly and fire combinations, and beat Gvozdyk to the punch in mid range because he has the better technique in that range, Gvozdyk is far to loose and ungainly in mid and close range.

It was DB's 1st fight at 175. He fought a very good guy, with a sturdy chin, decent stamina and was in there to win. DB did just fine.

I thought David's defense look pretty good he had some good head movement some faints different styles of blocking punches the real issue was just his inability to maintain a work rate that he could do at Super middleweight he also loaded up a lot on his punches which I also thought was a bad idea

I'd like to see him in another fight at this weight before making a judgment maybe he'll go about Camp differently and he'll preserve his stamina

Not too little or too late to render the scores laughable. 1
    119-109 ?

I scored it 115 -113 to Benavidez, but a draw would have been perfectly fine.

Gvozdyk clearly won the second half of the fight.

I don't think Benavidez should be at 175.

There is a lot of hype behind Benavidez.

Based on what I saw last night, I don't think he beats Canelo much less the best at 175, at least not yet.

He's still pretty young though and can get there.

One thing striking to me is how many shots Gvozdyk absorbed without being wobbled or even cut.

If that's the kind of power Benavidez is carrying at 175, he's going to have to box more and bang less.

I think we should speak about Gvozdyk.

It was a strange performance to say the least

Yes he obviously isn't the fighter he was in his prime and you only have to watch tape of the prime version to see that.

Yes he retired for three years and had only fought two tomato cans and a Euro level guy since coming back.

Yes he really should've taken at least one more fight (against a world class opponent) before jumping into this fight

But he's still a good fighter and he didn't look fearful or overly concerned or troubled or hurt by Benavidez even during Benavidez's best spells and he was just throwing light punches all night at Benavidez.

Even in the second half of the fight when he was having the better of it he just seemed content to be there like he just turned up for the payday and give a respectable account of himself.

I said beforehand that I questioned his hunger and desire and that he needed to sit down on his punches to get Benavidez's respect but he rarely did

This is a hungry fighter who is trying to win and throwing with mean intentions looking to hurt his opponents and take them out and we've seen him do the same against some of the most fearsome punchers in the sport who hit a lot harder than Benavidez.

    This content is protected

Yes age, decline, inactivity, rustiness,, loss of hunger etc. could all be the reason but he's still good enough and had enough left to give more and he just didn't

Benavidez is a brilliant fighter but that looked like a winnable fight for Gvozdyk last night and he should've at least been sitting down on his shots. He's a big puncher and physically bigger than he was back before he retired.

I’ve said previously that Benevidez is not a weight bully. He’s got a slim upper body and lanky arms. He’s got height, but he’s not well proportioned. Andrade’s upper body and arms were bigger than Benevidez’s. A lot of his weight is in his waist area, kinda like Fury.

Benevidez belongs at 168. That’s his best weight.

Yeah you are right. Either way same principal he can't bully bigger guys like he can naturally smaller guys at 168

After the 7th round, Benavidez was told to take it easy as to not scare away Canelo.
