Let's take the LHW version of RJJ at his peak. Say late 90's. Let's assume he moves up to cruiser. 12 rounds. Weight limit is 200 lbs. How does he do vs: Holyfield Usyk Marciano Bredis Jirov Toney Opetia Gassiev Moorer
Opetati, Gassiev, Toney, Breidis, Jirov, Moorer, Marciano, are winnable fights for RJJ but I don't think he would beat all of them. Some of them are very big Cruiserweights who hit hard, and you have Southpaws like Jirov, Moorer, who are big hitters and who dropped RJJ ? Southpaw Tarver. More than likely out of that bunch of names he has mixed results winning some and losing some and it wouldn't surprise me if a few of them knocked out RJJ. I definitely wouldn't pick RJJ to beat Holyfield, Usyk, though. I would say RJJ's overall record would be like 5-4 ? Possibly 4-5 TBH.
Holyfield beats Roy, just a great fighter, better than anyone Roy beat, he would close the distance better than Toney and would be immune to Roy`s power, Roy used to get tagged by hooks on the ropes and Holy had a great left hook, a more powerful hook than anybody Roy ever fought. Usyk is better than anyone his own size and under. Marciano would stop Roy with a left hook after illegally dipping below Roy`s waist making himself impossible to hit with legal shots, Roy could drop him though just like Moore did, 60/40 fight. Bredis probably loses a close decision unless he cathes Roy flush. Jirov loses to Roy. Toney loses to Roy looked slower at cruiser than he did at super-middle and didn`t know how to close the distance on quick footed fighters. Opetia Probably beats Roy, too big and powerful and might have enough hand speed to catch Roy or put him into a defensive shell all fight, Jai`s 2 inch reach advantage would probably be too much for Roy because of Jai`s speed, Roy was usually bigger and longe than his opponents, he was a weight bully aside from the poor, heavier Ruiz, who was awful. Gassiev Loses, too slow. Moorer Knocks Roy out, Roy never fought a fighter with Moorer`s finishing ability.
He'd do a hell of a lot better than if he stayed at HW in the 90's. I still wouldn't trust his chin to hold up against the most elite fighters/sluggers. Every matchup against anyone B level or higher would be a nail-biter. As remarkable as the Ruiz win was, we must remember that Ruiz was a guy with average power, not particularly fast, and a very simple and easy to read style centered around jabs, 1-2's, and grabs. Ruiz was not very big and would've been only slightly bigger than the average cruiser after rehydrating and eating a meal. Still, Jones' speed, jab, hooks, ring IQ, and vast experience would serve him well and he'd have at least a decent chance of winning against many cruisers but he probably wouldn't be favored to win unless he had a distinct style advantage.
I love a lot of the guys on this list. But I love Jones more. I'm gonna go ahead and say it ... Jones wins 'em all. Prime RJJ the best fighter I've ever seen. I await your criticism!!!
He was unproven against cruisers, he never proved he was the greatest cruiser of all-time, prime Holy and prime Moorer batter Ruiz with ease.
Holyfield - Lose Usyk - Lose Marciano - Lose Bredis - 50/50 Jirov - Win Toney - Win Opetia - 50/50 Gassiev - 55-45 Roy Moorer - Lose
Most those guys shatter his Glass Jaw. Roy isn’t taking those fights. Was very coddled and had a lot of handpicked fights in obscure locations.
Peak delusion in this thread from the fanboys of Roid Jones Jr. a light breeze from some of those guys knocks him stiff.
RJJ was very skilled and they'd all be fun fights, but his chin isn't going to handle a big shot from most of these guys (all of which are elite and powerful, considering their size), and most of them are good enough to land something big at some point.
I don't think he beats any of those guys or is even all that competitive in most of those fights. I love Roy but come on, that's an awesome list of bigger, more powerful guys there.
