Johnny Tapia or Barney Ross. Both fighters that dealt with their struggles with drug addiction. Barney Ross also fought in the battlefield of WW2 and was a war hero. A movie on Hector Camacho's life would be pretty interesting as well.
sadly a lot of Boxer's stories don't have that 'extra' bit however... like the Hurricane, the Cinderella Man, the Raging Bull, I mean they all had extra elements to the fighters lives, where as most don't.
There kinda was a Jack Johnson movie starring James Earl Jones, although they changed the name to Jack Jefferson. Wouldn’t mind seeing a modern take on Jack Johnson though. This content is protected
He's already had Ken Burns "Unforgivable Blackness", what else do you want? More worshipping at the feet of a pimp? He's had his media attention for over 100 years, let's get another guy a movie. Someone like Harry Greb, who no one outside of this forum knows about. Or Johnny Tapia.
Jack Johnson, John L. Sullivan, Jim Jeffries and Jim Corbett would make incredible films if they explore their complexity. The Great John L. in itself was a very good movie, as were The Great White Hope and Gentleman Jim, but if you get the right director and scriptwriter than fully explores their humanity and psyche with the right sources. It would be an excellent series, that’s for sure.
I don’t want a movie but Archie Moore needs a several season long documentary of his life. From his time in and out of juvi as a kid to working as a lumberjack building roads n stuff during the depression to leaving that and going on the Road Town to town challenging the best fighters playing the villain. To his Argentina dealings w the president their and his hand in getting him a title fight w Maxim (think Moore was only paid a few hundred dollars). To his challenging Marciano and Patterson then to his training life and acting and starting his ABC foundation.
