Tyson wasn't fighting guys who could throw 80+ (powerful) punches a round. There's obviously the question of how Rocky deals with his speed but I think that Rocky would stick to him like glue. I am also of the very typical opinion that Tyson wasn't a very hard nut to crack and lost all his fights by submission. Howard Stern once asked Joe Frazier on one of his shows about how to beat Tyson; Frazier simply replied: 'Fight back'.
it's quite extraordinary logic to think that Tyson's victory over Spinks is not very impressive due to the fact that Spinks was LHW and at the same time have no problem with the fact that Marciano fought terribly hard fights against LHW even though one of them was older than Holmes from Tyson. Static, quite slow LHW Moore, receiving dozens of power punches from Tyson just like he received from Rocky and still standing on his feet. My imagination just can't comprehend it. Tyson is much faster, stronger, much better trained than Marciano, has a better jaw and is more resistant to injuries. I don't see a single advantage on Rock's side. no sentiments, but this fight would last one, maybe two rounds and it would be a mismatch.
Haha I’m staying out of it. I pick Tyson in this matchup. If Marciano by some miracle made it out of the 6th he wins but it’s prob the worst matchup for him. I keep thinking of Walcott v Marciano 1 the first round how he got blitzed and didn’t handle it well (looked a bit nervous and was cold but no excuse). This thread has been done a lot. I try to be honest and call fights on styles…Marciano does far better against Frazier and even better against Holy than Tyson did.
Well, the Tyson that fought Holyfield was probably in the worst state that he could've been against roided out Evan Fields. He was already in his decline when it came to speed and power but didn't make any adjustments to his style, and ended up getting bulled around the ring the whole match, but that's what counts. In a game of inches, you have to figure out the way to take it from the opponent on a singular scale, not on a wide scale. The same strategy won't always work, and Holyfield was no Seldon.
I wouldn't count Frazier as a great tactician against Tyson ,not after he led his son like a lamb to be slaughtered against him.Frazier, like Marciano could only fight one way,the problem with Joe ,as I understand it was he thought everyone else should fight that one way.
No,Tyson was fighting modern sized heavyweights in their prime, not old exlhvy's and past prime heavies having their last fights.
Power Tyson Speed Tyson Chin Tyson Stamina Rocky Footwork Tyson Technique Tyson Ring IQ Tyson Defense Tyson Body Punching Tyson Combinations Tyson Workrate Rocky Timing Tyson Accuracy Tyson Ferocity Even Versatility Tyson Heart Rocky 12-1-3 advantage to Tyson The 1st round would start off somewhat competitive since I could see Rocky crowding Tyson and making him uncomfortable. Rocky's chin and determination were good enough to endure a few bombs early and keep bringing the heat to Tyson. There would be some furious exchanges and it would get rough and ugly. As Rocky is so short and pivots a lot while Tyson uses plenty of head movement, there'd be a clash of heads. Rocky is worse off with his bad skin/scar tissue and has some swelling. The two smother each other's punches with very close short shots that don't have a lot on them, but there are a lot of them. Rocky has a hard time landing clean, but he's throwing a lot and will go around the peak a boo guard to nail Tyson on the biceps, temple, forearms, whatever he can hit. Tyson is more patient and picks his shots well like a sniper. Towards the end of the round, Tyson would buzz Rocky with a sharp hook and Rocky responds with a looping right hand. Everything changes in the 2nd as Tyson slips underneath a big right hand, shifts his weight, and detonates on Rocky's head with a powerful left hook sending Rocky to the canvas in the blink of an eye. Rocky is in total shock unsure of what happened and is up at 3 more stunned than hurt, but it has affected his legs, and the swelling on his face has become a bright red circle the size of an orange. Instead of backing off, Rocky steps in throwing a wild barrage. Tyson puts up his peak a boo guard rolling with the shots and then throws a punishing right to Rocky's body knocking the wind out of him. Rocky grits his teeth in pain and buries his head into Tyson's chest, hammering away with body shots of his own. They end up clinching, wrestling, elbowing, and tumbling repeatedly before the ref separates them. Tyson steps in opening up for a bomb and Rocky ducks underneath catching him off guard with a leaping gazelle punch crashing into Tyson's jaw. Tyson is momentarily rocked, but recovers.Tyson throws some hooks but Rock keeps pressing in and smothering his shots, making them either miss or only land partially. Bell rings with the 2 of them grappling close range and Rocky staying busy on the inside while Tyson looks more and more annoyed and confused. Round 3 and Rocky's corner has brought down the swelling and bleeding a bit, but he's still in bad shape. He dips to the side attempting to draw in punches from Tyson, who obliges him with a few crisp jabs and right hands. Rocky's awkward crouch and short height are messing with Tyson's timing. Finally, as Tyson reaches in he is caught by Rocky's Suzie Q right hand and goes down to one knee. Tyson is up at 2 and steadies himself slightly buzzed but clear headed. Rocky again throws a high volume barrage and is all over Tyson. Next thing you know, Tyson is actually slipping and dipping even lower than Rocky. He dips so low that his trunks are nearly on the canvas. Tyson lunges upwards and connects with an incredibly powerful uppercut, snapping Rocky's head back and sending sweat and blood flying into the first row. Rocky's mouth is a complete mess seeping blood like a faucet and his eyes are glazed. Rocky grabs his mouth piece and is barely able to rise at the count of 7. Rocky's corner looks nervous as Goldman paces back and forth with wide eyes. Tyson immediately goes for the attack. Rocky tries to his crouch and dipping with a high guard, but Tyson goes to his left and lands a hook on the body, then weaves to the right and lands a hook on the opposite side of Rocky's mid section. Rocky instinctively brings his hands down, having never gotten hit to the body this hard. Tyson nails him with a right hand and Rocky responds with his own right, bruising Tyson's left eye. They exchange in a wild slugfest with zero regard for defense. Rocky's mouth and nose are leaking a crazy amount of blood with each punch that connects. Tyson ducks under a right hand and again detonates with a fierce left hook that puts Rocky on the ground for the 3rd time. Rocky is face first on the canvas motionless till the count of 5 before slowly getting to 1 knee. Although he's up at 9, Goldman throws the towel. Rocky protests but the ref waves it off. Tyson TKO Round 3 in a very violent and exciting short fight. Rocky raises Tyson's arm with a smile and Tyson remarks to the reporter how the Brockton legend is as tough as they say.
I gave Tyson the advantage in almost every stat and had him stopping Rocky in 3 rounds. Not sure what you mean. Rocky is tougher and more determined than anyone Tyson ever KOd.
Also worth mentioning Marciano's best weapon the "Suzie Q" wasn't one of Williams's weakness. As we know Williams was vulnerable to left hooks not right hands I think Marciano would have alot of problems with Williams, your talking about a 6'4 85 inch reach Williams who has good boxing skills and a very good jab vs 5'10 67 inch reach Marciano. Marciano is obviously greater than Williams but Williams would tower over Marciano and has an almost 20 inch reach advantage!!!!!
