Do you think that, over the years, boxing technique evolves with each generation? I'm personally a big believer that it does; Usyk, Golovkin, and Inoue all look much better fundamentally than the likes of Louis, Hagler, or Jofre respectively imo.

Because the fundamentals of the stance itself has significantly improved over the years to be wider and therefore more versatile for the transfer of weight and making boxers better balanced, fighters know to tuck their chin in more often nowadays than they did before with their chins in the air and hands low, and also guards and defensive technique has improved. It seems a bit weird to me to think that the fighters who watch and learnt from the previous generations would be worse than them when they're taking their foundations and improving on them each time.

I could not disagree more. There technique doesn't come close to looking better of film than the after mentioned guys. Not even close!

I think you’ve nearly got it all backwards. You don’t know what you’re looking at respectfully.

Of course. It evolves in line with the requirements of the environment, like every other form of evolution. If the changes stop, evolution would stop (After a little while).

Adaptation is not evolution and, in turn, not necessarily improvement.

Yes fighters like Usyk and Inoue look way better then fighters in the past despite all the old heads complaining. Notice how none of them can give concrete reasons why technique was better in the past they just repeat it like a dogma.

Not everything evolves into a higher state. Many things devolve and cease to be.

Nah it's impossible, them thar "old school" fighters have techniques that eclipse anything used by modern fighters.

Despite modern guys looking for every edge possible, including injecting themselves with dubious chemicals in order to gain an edge, NONE of them have ever looked at that "old time" footage for the

    No.

Fighters are stronger though, and most likely hit harder on average, and also I think they are generally faster as far as hands go, today.

Too many guys today are 'robotic' though, they fight like videogame characters, fighters today can´t adapt because all they do is ****ing pad work, the ring IQ, on general, is very poor, they fight less, they spar less, the game today thinks it´s cool to have this touching punches that gets nowhere, or when they can punch, like a Canelo, it is just combinations that are just autowork because of the combinations he did in the pad/mitts trainning.

You mentioned Jofre, tell me which was his signature combination ? He didn´t have one, but oh boy he could put his punches together ! Think about that ! Why is that ? Because he could put punches together one completely different than the other, according to the moment.

I had that recent thread on tactics and strategy which I think it is a change that happened, but that goes to the trainer and the puzzle he has to solve due to all the film avaliable and all, it is actually a flaw that is growing in the actual fighters.

This is a fair criticism though. Fighting more often will sharpen you up in a way that rote training cannot.

It is fair to say that it changes to reflect changes in the sport itself.

Obviously such change does not necessarily imply improvement.
