Best jab in boxing history?

Which reminds me to enter the fascinating Joey Archer into the conversation.


Going back over a century and a quarter, Frank Erne should be cited. Granted, we don't have film of him, but I've numerous old newspaper clippings detailing how his jab ruined Joe Gans in their first bout for possibly the greatest stoppage win of any title defense ever. Gans had to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to counter its devastating effects.

 

Sonny Liston is my choice. Very underrated, versatile, and multifaceted jab.

Are some my favourite fighters to watch who had really powerful jabs, i do like when fighters put real mustard behind their jabs so it's more like a straight right hand.

 

Pound for pound the hardest jab I have ever seen. Liston is obviously another guy that had a heavy jab but Quartey was murderous with that punch.

A fine mention. I'll raise you a Bob Foster who had a similar physique and great jab.

For the underrated category i reckon Michael Spinks developed a heckuva jab.

Of those not mentioned, Miguel Canto's jab was a thing of beauty and Winky Wright's jab vs Trinidad was as effective in a single fight as any I've seen.

 

JIm Driscoll had a fine jab,so did Ken Buchanan.

 

Tito didnt have a clue how to deal with it did he.

 

Dis but since we're referrin' to underrated ones I always felt Mosley was special, especially in his prime years by how varied it was.

 

Hagler used his jab like a force of nature, he'd double or triple it up and basically drive his whole body towards you while doing it, usually clashing legs or shoulders in the process, and in the end totally manhandling you.

It's very hard to narrow it down to who had the best jab in history. If I had to name a person or be executed I'd probably go with Hagler. I'd rather have Hagler's jab than anyone elses'.

But there's any one of 10, even maybe 20 people who you can say has the best jab and I wouldn't argue.
