It's good to see someone honest enough to say they aren't sure of the answer .
You are also right in stating that neither beat anyone as good ( in or near their prime) as in this match up.
I find Liston is one of the more difficult of the greats to rate accurately .

I am amazed when people pick Holmes to stop other atg's especially durable ones. Who did Holmes actually stop that was durable? Mercer, Witherspoon, Norton? Ali had a knack for stopping durable fighters. Holmes did not. Holmes isn't stopping Liston. Not even though accumulation of punches.

Liston by a close decision for me with an outside chance of a mid to late round stoppage. Holmes is a lot more hittable than Ali and Larry will struggle with Liston's jab. Holmes will have his moments outboxing Liston but he will get hit too much. Once his legs slow, Liston will attack the body.

Did you just call Ali, 56 - 37 KOs, the Louisville killa, feather fisted? Lol

Holmes takes him, I believe by a late round KO. He probably gets dropped, but there's no way he stays down, the will of prime Holmes was insane.

Liston was dropped by top ten contender Martin when he was in his late 30s at the very youngest.

Holmes was dropped by the 19-8, unranked, Weaver in his prime.

Yup in Snipes next fight, he sure gave the obscure, never sniffed a ranking his entire career, Scott Frank problems. Even held the guy to a draw!

 A genius comment which shows you never understood my point. My point being Ali smashed Liston up with ease and Ali doesn't have much punching power.

Your lucid argument has persuaded me. Ali=Tyson. Good job.

Ali needed his GF to make breakfast because he couldn't crack an egg. I rest my case.

Weaver, Spinks, Snipes, Frazier, and Smith were all pretty durable in their prime.
Weaver at the time had only been knocked out in the start of his career, and had not been dropped by Mercado before the fight with Holmes, nor by Tate, Coetzee, or Tillis directly after.
Spinks didn't get dropped by Mercado, and only got knocked out by Coetzee because be was out of training.
Snipes was not knocked out against Coetzee, Witherspoon, or Page.
Frazier didn't get knocked out by Broad, Tillis, or Smith, and only went on to get knocked out by Tyson.
And Smith didn't get knocked out against Bruno, Witherspoon, Weaver, or Ferguson.
