It's good to know there is an actual process and they are not all about monkey business, dubious shenanigans and other forms of shithousery.
Feels like Charr has been the "Regular" champion or in contention for it the last 20 years . Embarrassing At least they managed to remove Ali Raymi from their top 10 ages after he'd died
Dychko being on the list while also having a career that appears limited to posting pictures of himself smiling at the gym is also notable.
Um... well sadly, if you did it... probably not (same goes for me, btw). But if someone with media presence did, then I think fans would care. Simon Jordan, then an outsider who is now the main guy on TalkSport Boxing, won a lot of boxing fans over by putting it on Mauricio Sulaimán a few years back. Unfortunately, Jordan, like a lot of the ones you rightfully take issue with, became another flavour of boxing's access media/editorializers. Even so, I think that one episode tells us the fans want someone in the media to hold these bodies accountable.
The #6 fighter in the WBA Rankings: 29-3-1 Record Last Heavyweight fight: 2018 Best Heavyweight Win: Maybe Darnell Wilson? Best argument for ranking: Going the distance with Briedas at CW in 2017 (lost) Other supporting performances: Draw vs. Takam in 2014 Lost Split Dec with Bryant Jennings in 2014 You could argue top 10 at Cruiserweight....maybe....but should be nowhere near top ten at heavyweight
I suspect he will just be used a stepping stone. His #6 ranking will be used to legitimise the financially backed fighter that beats him who then finds themselves in the top 3 or whatever. It's just a different flavour of bull****. WBC like to parachute in top 15 opponents for voluntary defences. WBO let you fight a string of overmatched opponents to push you up their rankings. And the IBF appear to have just given up with trying to dictate who fights who. It's always about how much money your promoter is willing to throw at a problem. Take Dubois for a prime example of this: Remember when Dubois became WBO #2 (behind Usyk) by beating Tetteh, Fujimoto, and Snijders (none of them ranked). He then finally fights a WBO top #15 guy in Joyce (#11) and loses. Dubois' team then proceeds to go the WBA route. He fights another string of sub-class opponents, manages to avoid any of the other contenders this time around, and ends up with a WBA mandatory shot against Usyk. Loses to Usyk. Two fights later...he is IBF champion.
By media presence do you mean video? I don't take any offense to pointing out the lack of media presence my account on this forum has, I'm just curious if you think written form matters or is that basically the same as a no recognition poster on a forum? If it was an article by a writer that's well known to boxing news sites, would you read it or skip it?
I would like to think the written form still matters, but it depends on the website I suppose as to what kind of traction it would get. I probably have a bit of a dated view on this but from a lot to little: -TV news/ TV sports news/ TV documentary expose -Broadsheet newspapers -Tabloid newspapers -Sky sports website, ESPN website, TalkSport website, etc. -Youtube channels aligned with one of the above. -Prestige industry websites: The Ring website, BoxingNewsOnline, etc. -Boxing Youtubers -Other boxing websites -Fan Forum posts/Blogs/Twitter -BoxingNews24 articles
