If I'm picking Tyson over Holmes I guess i have to pick Liston. If one believes "Tyson could beat any version of Holmes" its hard to say the same isn't true of Liston. Holmes is that guy you pick to get beat by smaller fighters you have ranked lower than him.
Looking it up only 2 guys he came back from knockdowns against as champ seem to be Shavers and Snipes. Both got Holmes when Holmes was way ahead later in the fight. He overcame a lot of adversity but never came back from an early KD. I don't think we have anything suggesting he could do that against Liston.
Larry Holmes is Muhammad Ali but with some meanness. He’d pop Sonny’s head around all night like a bobble head.
We don’t have anything to suggest Liston could overcome let alone be competitive with a style like Holmes. Just evidence anyway.
Not stylistically but they both go for the early KO and I think it harder to survive Liston than Tyson. So if I'm picking Tyson I got to pick Liston.
He never came back from an early knockdown because he never got knocked down early in his prime, the only time he ever did was against Tyson when he returned from retirement, and he got knocked out then. Liston also wouldn't be going for an early round stoppage like he did against Patterson, or Williams, because he only did so when he saw it was optimal. He was very measured against most of his opponents, especially in his prime, we'd see that Sonny here. If Liston charged in against Holmes, it would just be a waste of energy, and an easy thing to counter. He didn't do it against Machen, who was much less dangerous, and much smaller than Holmes.
You imply that you haven’t seen the Bonavena, Foreman and Lyle fights to name three. You also seemed to be not understanding that Ali’s hands gave him increasing trouble as time went by - so much so that it even curtailed his heavy bag training prior to some fights. More the exception than the rule, Ali’s hands got the absolute all clear for the Zaire fight. Ali KO 8 over Foreman. Funny about that.
I've actually posted two of those fights for your education. Supporting my point that Ali couldn't hit too hard. Thanks. So: 1) Foreman's chin was eggshells 2) Ali was a monster puncher for that fight but struggled to bust a grape in his other fights orrrrr (dingdingding) 3) Foreman fought like a dummy, blew his gas tank trying to blast out a difficult target just like in the Young fight, and got stopped because he had nothing left.
I really like that great left hook off the jab from Sonny in this. Sometime during the 2nd half of the bout
What fights did you post and where? I only saw your reference to GF. You won't be educating anyone calling Ali feather fisted. Straight to the back of the class for you. Pay more attention. Ali's hands gave him more trouble "over time". What don't you understand about that statement or the fact that Ali received injections for his hands and that those hands could sometimes be less of a problem than at other times? Sheesh! Don't pretend that anyone is supporting your point when they are clearly not. Anyone can see that Ali was hitting Foreman notably hard and often. He clearly shook George in round 4, 4 rounds prior to the KO. Foreman's face wasn't lumping up on its own either. Obviously, you missed all that too. Good stuff. Keep it coming.
Wow I learn amazing facts every day here on Classic. So Ali is a monster puncher now. Does he fly, too? Or are you waiting to uncork that super power for a future H2H where he really needs it? His monster punching power would sure have been useful against Kenny Norton x3 but I guess they must have spiked his water those times, right?
Are you tired and emotional? You must be to be talking such delusional rubbish. Otherwise, the Strawman needs to visit OZ ASAP for a brain.
