For me, this topic has nothing to do with judicial injustices. The saddest moments are those in which the boxers' health was permanently damaged, or they died. And I will not mention the names.
OK you've had your saynow2 listen.... 1...No one in this world despises cheaters more than I do. If I thought for one minute Antonio had loaded gloves or even tried to load them I'd have been on him worse than anyone. I'd known Antonio since 1999 & followed him since. I have been present at the majority of his fights since then. Ive seen his hands wrapped many many times. I have never seen anything wrong ever. 2... The CSAC tried to mislead by saying calcium & sulphur , both are ingredients of plaster, were found in the pad. Yes both are ingredients of plaster, but also ingredients of HUMAN SWEAT!! also hand crèmes. The independent lab that tested mentioned this but the CSAC omitted to mention that. The lab had to use microscopic analysis to detect the TRACE ELEMENTS of calcium & sulphur they were so minute. plus the lab NEVER mentioned any white plaster like substance either. The lab determined the pads were HARMLESS used pads THAT CAPETILLO READILLY ADMITTED HE HAD PUT IN THE WRAP ACCIDENTLY !! INSTEAD OF NEW ONES. Believe me if the CSAC had one iota of proof they had tried to load those wraps they would have indicted him. They couldn't they'd have been laughed out of court & Margarito would have been a very rich man today. US Law states that all suspects must be deemed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The only court Margarito had was a Kangaroo Court & a farce. It was proven by the CSAC's own statement." We still believe that Mr Margarito MAY have TRIED to alter his protective wraps so we will not be returning his licence to box in in the State of California" A good honest fighters career was destroyed & his good name tarnished No wonder boxing is riddled with corruption is it Anyway I'll bet when all this happened you were still in diapers, I was there, witnessed it all
I met Antonio..lovely person, salt of the Earth. I actually believe him when he says he didnt know. Im not sure for sure that he didnt know or not because Im not dumb. But 80 percent of me believes him. To me there are many sad moments in boxing during my lifetime, like: Wilfredo Gomez losing to Salvador Sanchez Sanchez dying Alexis Arguello losing to Aaron Pryor twice Duk Koo Kim and then Kiko Bejines dying There was a boxer who was from my hometown of Caguas and trained at the gym I trained at, his nickname was "Cheez Trix" because his hair looked like the snack. I cant remember his real name now but he was murdered. The gym was closed the next day, with a black ribbon on its door. Esteban De Jesus, Ruben Palacios, Proud Kilimanjaro and Tommy Morrison dying of AIDS related disease Chapo Rosario dying Alexis Arguello dying Macho Camacho shot and then dying Muhammad Ali dying Those were among the saddest moments in boxing to me during my lifetime.
The Patrick Day match still haunts me. I was impressed with his respectful attitude in the corner. He just seemed like a genuinely good person. To see his head hit the canvas and see him not get up was agonizing.
ive said this in other threads but duran looked so good against camacho a few months earlier. an older (45 yrs old), fatter duran as well. you'd thought that a younger and well rested leonard might actually pumble a former super featherwieght who was only 5 years younger than him. genuienly. had he won he would of been serious show for 160. 160lbs was barren (to observers at the time). ring magazine had quincy taylor as Number 1 middlweight in 1996. so leonard would of def been a title challenger when he beats that tiny puerto rican showb....oh....damn. rule of thumb ever after. never trust an old fighter who comes into the ring with black trunks.
Interestingly, after the Camacho fight, Ray said he felt every punch like he’d never felt them before - every punch hurt, even those from Hector. Among other deteriorations, Ray’s resilience was absolutely gone by that stage.
When I heard the news that the mother of the Korean boxer who died after fighting against Ray Mancini committed a suicide.
This is what I always said. I met Antonio too and he didnt strike me as someone who'd do that. In fact, I met him at a press conference for his fight with Hercules Kyvelos and when he heard I had lost my diabetic test kit somewhere, he stopped the conference and came and helped me search for it! Thats the Antonio I remember. And I am actually not only Miguel Cotto's countrywoman I am also his townspeople too! So no, I dont think Antonio knew.
Without doubt it was a diabolical decision robbing Roy BUT It certaintly helped him in his career. He refused to fight overseas because he feared he might be robbed again, & that gave him he advantage of fighting at home
I rewatched the fight a few years ago and it was like watching today's Boston Celtics versus the worst team in the Puerto Rican BSN pro league..it was like a 100-0 game, where at the end the only drama is whether the other team will score a basket or not lol. But in boxing, as we all know, the drama never ends after the final count, ir in this case, bell.
