Jack Johnson and everyone earlier except maybe Fitz. Later on Walcott and maybe Marciano?

Of those three the only one I’d be reluctant to favor him against was Johnson due to Jacks ability to hang around and linger forever.

    quite a few i think.

i don't like his chances vs jack johnson tho, good size, smart hard puncher with experience and stamina vs bruno? sounds like a bruno loss.

Doesn't the fact that Bruno lost nearly all his important fights, suggest that he was not better than Carnera head to head, or at least that it would be a dangerous assumption to make?

I think that Carnera hit plenty had enough to put Bruno away if he gassed.

I don't really hold it against Bruno in this situation, because all of the men that he gassed out and lost against would've wiped the floor with Carnera.

I'd give Bruno a decent shout against Patterson. Floyd was much more skilled but his weaknesses play into Bruno's strengths.

Carnera beat more like half a dozen., including two lineal champions, and a few Hall of Famers.

Can we have these top ten ranked names now?

Carnera couldnt put Loughran away despite getting 84 lbs from him,he couldnt even floor him.Carnera's ko record against ,men of any of class.
Sharkey, yeah if you believe it, which I don't.
    Neusel got cut and quit.
Schaff had brain damage and should not have been in the ring.
    That's it!

    Names?

But they didn't, they wiped the floor with Bruno instead.

Not really. He outboxed all the men mentioned before that he lost to, only to have the men turn it around. Smith did it in the 10th, Witherspoon did it in the 11th, and Lewis did it in the 7th, and Bruno was in the lead before all of these knockouts. Carnera had no chance to form a lead ahead of any of these men.

Off the top of my head:

    Young Stribling
    George Godfrey
    King Levinsky (possibly both times)
    Ernie Schaff
    Jack Sharkey
    Tommy Loughran
    Walter Neusell

There may well be others, but these are the ones that I am confident about.

For whatever it is worth, I see stopping Loughran as a tougher assignment than stopping Bruno.

Gee I guess Bruno would look pretty sick by the 15th round.

    The Stribling fights were fixed.
    Schaaf had brain damage.
    Neusel was not ranked.
Loughran was ko'd by Sharkey and Hamas, neither were in the same ball park as Bruno for power.

    Plausible, but not proven.
He was still a top five contender.

Any sort of wins over top flight opposition are better than none.
He literally can't not have been.

He was coming off back to back wins over Jack Petersen, who was rankled at the end of teh previous year, and had built a wining streak from there.
We are discussing whether Bruno or Loughran was harder to stop, so how they would do against each other , is irrelevant in this discussion for now.

The mistake might be believing all of those men weren’t planning or taking there time just because you’re ahead on the score cards doesn’t mean you’re winning. Watch Toney - Nunn.
