Never mind that it is for a Bridgerweight title, but it is interesting on its own merits. Gadzhimagomedov has had only three pro fights, but is an amateur star of sorts. Zhang was unheralded until recently, when he had a dramatic victory over Romanov, who himself had a bit of a cult following for his amateur victory over Wilder. Could turn out to be a good one.
Yep, I am. Zhang is a real underdog and I hope he does well, but at this weight I think Gadzhimagomedov will just be too skilled. I expected Gadzhimagomedov would campaign at cruiser ... he just seems too thin and lanky to absorb larger HW punchers.
Tell me more about Gabzhimagomedov. What is he like stylistically? Power? Speed? Footwork? Defense? Cheers.
I've watched a bit of him on youtube now. Here are my perceptions from a limited amount of fights. Good footwork...good head movement...good arsenal...good workrate....good jab, though he infights more than outboxes....high guard....good speed although not in the class of his amateur rival Julio La Cruz...in his fight with Artur Mann he went to the body with a very good right that put him down, but... Big problem moving forward will be power and strength. As a Bridger, seems to be a quality attrition puncher, as he showed tonight, but he is not a one-punch guy and if he goes to heavy he will have to depend on skills. Also, although almost 6'5", he is not robust, and I can see him being bullied by heavies and even bigger bridgers. But, he is a Bridgerweight champ in his 4th pro fight, with a couple of good wins already, so good luck. At 27, maybe he can still fill out a bit. We will see some good fights out of him, and with his age, experience and accomplishments, he'll be in the mix. Maybe he will be the first Bridger to successfully defend his title!
Very good all rounder. Can tell he has huge amateur pedigree, he knows what he's doing in there. Just lacks power like the poster above me wrote. I think he'll be successful at world level for a long time at bridger/Cruiser. But despite his height, I don't think he'd do that well if he moves up to heavyweight.
Couple of good shorts. From last night against Zhang, and against Mann, both very good fighters for a 4-fight guy. I do notice that there are a LOT of comments on the internet saying that he has been the beneficiary of bad judges as both an amateur and in his WSB fights. I am not sure I agree, but the perception seems to come from the fact that he win a lot by having a higher workrate, and it is often his opponent that gets the punch of the round. I am going to retro-actively make this a dedicated thread to Muslim Gadzhimagomedov. Muslim fights on October 17 against Leon Harth at Ufa arena. Harth is the no-hoper they put against Tischenko for the Bridgerweight title, and since Tischenko popped dirty and it was changed to a no contest, Harth gets another shot. Hope Gadzhi's next opponent is a little better.
