Tuesday, the third of September at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Yoshiki Takei vs. Daigo Higa and Ismael José Barroso Bernay vs. Andy Hiraoka Cudjoe in chief support. Inoue will defend the IBF and WBA super bantamweight titles each for the second time, and the WBO and WBC titles for a third each. The champion was originally supposed to have done so later in the same week versus WBC #7 and IBF/WBO mandatory contender Sam Goodman, but the Aussie declined the opportunity after sustaining a double left hand fracture in his UD victory over Thachtana Luangphon last week. The also Australian based Irish southpaw TJ Doheny is ranked WBO #2, WBA #6, IBF #7, and Ring Magazine & WBC #8. This content is protected
You have to give Doheny credit. The man fights one good fighter after another. That being said, this is a bridge too far for the 37 year old Doheny. TJ has never been stopped but I think that streak ends here. Inoue by mid round knockout.
Yeah, if I'm team Doheny, the game is to see if we can make it to round 7. That in itself is a pretty big moral victory. Doheny was comfortably beaten last year by the guy he's replacing, whom pretty much everyone already saw as being hopelessly mismatched against Inoue.
Terrible fight. Why waste your prime years on an older Doheny, even a prime one would be a bad fight.
I wonder what the odds for Doheny via T/KO will be. Might throw a buck on him via decision or stoppage if it´s anything over 30.0.
Maybe a headbutt cuts Inoue really bad and TJ manages to scrape together a 5th round TD? Crazier things have happened.
