Since it's the perennial glamour division, here are the men's super heavies:

A mix of established veterans (bronze medalists Kunkabayev and Teixeira, probably top seeded gold medalist Jalolov, and his old rival Abdullayev,) and young talent (Orie, Edwards, Chaloyan, Lovchynskyi)

The 8 'seeds' in order are: 1. Joshua Edwards (USA), 2. Delicious Orie (UK), 3. Mourad Kadi (ALG), 4. Bakhodir Jalolov (UZB), 5. Teremoana Junior (AUS), 6. Abner Teixeira (BRA), 7. Kamshybek Kunkabeyev (KAZ), 8. Mahammad Abdullaev (AZE).

Is that ordinated arbitrarily or is Edwards actually the favorite?

The seeding process was that the 'winners' of each of the continental Olympic qualifying events would be seeded top 5. Europe, Asia & the Americas also had the second placegetter of their qualifying events given the remaining three seeds randomly (i.e. 6 to 8). A gerrymander was applied to ensure that the winners of the European, Asian & Americas qualifiers took 3 of the top 4 seeds (distributed randomly). The remaining top 4 seed went to the winner of either the African or Oceania qualifier. The 'random' draw gave the final top 4 spot to the African.

In short, Joshua Edwards isn't the favourite. He's been seeded top 4 b/c the winner of the Americas qualifying event (which was decided by walkover after Abner Teixeira elected not to fight on after qualifying for the Olympics by making the final) automatically received a top 4 seed. The top seed was randomly selected from amongst those who received a top 4 seeding.

Jalolov has been a pro for six years. He's 14-0 and ranked in the top 10 by the WBC and top 15 by the WBO.

It's so ridiculous these guys are able to do this.

    I hate it.

Relatively recent development, only the last few Olympics. The funny part though is that big name pros don't customarily fare all that well.

Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam got bounced before the medal round. Manny Pacquiao was going to participate but thought better of it as he probably realized that a bunch of 20 year olds who eat/sleep/breathe the sport in a way he hasn't for at least a decade are probably a taller order than he first bargained for.

However, in Jalolov's case, yeah he's the man to beat this year.

Not really kept up with amateur boxing in a while since it stopped being shown on UK TV

Who are the main prospects to watch?
