Best examples of unsophisticated “lesser” boxers winning over intelligent types (read OP)

    One example just off the top of my head would be Marciano vs Walcott.
    Electing a guy as unsophisticated isn’t always a matter of truth or meant to be an insult and maybe just a perception.
    The rule is the other guy the “intellectual” fighter has to at least have a reputation as such or clearly contrast as more classical.
    Pryor beating Arguello for a few reasons but one of them being he just punched his way out of the mirror house so to speak - perhaps this could be extended to McGirt vs Taylor, Moore vs Marciano.
    Fullmer vs Robinson
    Basilio vs Graham
    Hearns vs Barkley
    Moon vs Konandu
    Vito vs Curro
    These sorts of fights are the flavour and I think you’d get it if you’ve seen any of those which we likely all have at one point. Anyway thanks.

    Not a win but Vito Antuofermo retaining vs. Hagler with a draw fits this bill.

    I’d argue Joe Frazier over Muhammad Ali in FotC — Joe was a helluva fighter but he was a lesser ‘boxer’ to Ali and there’s nothing terribly sophisticated about bobbing and weaving while coming forward throwing mostly left hooks.
