where is the drive for an AIBA alternative?

We have an ultimatum from the IOC that boxing needs a international amateur organisation within 3 years. Why is there no serious calls from domestic associations? why don’t the big 4 orgs try and hash out something?

They are underfunded, But why don’t IBO try and jump the queue and create a program? Might be a new avenue under altruistic motives but would lead them to be ahead of the curve and give the world Olympic attention.

Do we think faith in a reformed AIBA could ever be restored, or has that ship pretty much sailed?

 

Some alternative organization was started, I believe, led by United States.

The issue is convincing everyone to join it. IBA is headed by some shady Russian guy, Kremlev. He'll obviously have support from the Russian federation, since He allows their athleths to compete internationally, while other body - particulary led by the USA - would in all likelyhood follow up on the sanctions and ban them.
Then with many other athlethes and federations, IBA is still appealing because They started paying very respectable purses for medal spots. I know They used to be sponsored by Gazprom, I read that their deal has ended - so no idea where They are getting the funds from now, but I think They might have some support from the government in some Central Asia countries like Uzbekistan.

So at the end - it's political and unlikely to change. Most federation were still sending their athlethes to World Championship organised by IBA. Now They also announced that They will revive the old World Series of Boxing format.
Maybe the threat of removing Boxing from the Olympics will be sufficient - but I hope it won't take the actual ban to take place before some of the people in the sport realise that amateur boxing is nothing without the Olympics and can't be succesful in the kind of decentralised model that We see in the Professional game.

I would love to see Lopez get his third gold medal. However I think Khyzhniak will get the good done this time.

this is why i sort of just think with 4 years grace or more or less 3 years to create an alternate competition and ranking organisation.

i see no reason why go back to AIBA

Three important notes

• Fighter seeds are NOT an objective ranking of presumed talent or ability. Because of the International Boxing Association’s complex and precarious situation with the International Olympic Committee, this year’s event is overseen by an ad hoc committee called the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit. They determined the seeds for each division by random draw based on the results of the five 2023 Continental qualifying tournaments. The five gold medalists were randomly drawn for seeds 1-5, and the silver medalists from Europe, Asia, and the Americas were drawn for seeds 6, 7, and 8.

• Medal predictions do consider potential matchups among seeded fighters. For example: In the 92 kg division, Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine and Keno Machado would both be presumptive picks for medals in a blind draw. But, we already know they’d have to face each other before the medal rounds, and that’s factored into the medal projections. But, the final draw for the full bracket won’t be known until July 25th. We don’t know what the path looks like for the unseeded boxers yet, and the results of that draw will obviously render some of these medal picks impossible.

• Finally, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, of course, actually happened in 2021. Rather than repeatedly typing something wordy and awkward like “the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021” when discussing results from those games, they’ll just be referred to as “2020.”

 

The proposition that the seeding process was 'a random draw' is nonsense. It was a straight-out gerrymander in which the top European, Americas & Asian qualifiers were automatically afforded top 4 status (meaning they would not have to face each other before the medal rounds). Whenever you see a gerrymander applied, it's a case of those welding power making decisions to entrench that power. A truly random draw would have meant that the top qualifiers from each of the five qualification events had equal chance of being seeded top 4. That wasn't the case. Also the seeding process wasn't announced until very late (earlier this month, to be precise). The people running the boxing tournament then put out a video emphasising the random nature of the draw. It just goes to show it doesn't matter who is organising the tournament, corruption runs deep in amateur boxing.
