Damn, guess Skull didn´t like the step aside deal. Good for him, I guess.
But Skull should not be anyones mandatory, it´s straight up BS  IBF are an odd bunch.

Well, I agree that Berlanga's probably taking this fight "too soon," but I'm still looking forward to it.

Very disappointing. The one saving grace was that Canelo was on a record setting Undisputed run. For it to end this way is just downright shameful. It's idiotic for Canelo to defend against Berlanga instead of Scull or Shishkin. Not only do most fans not want to see him fight Berlanga but then you're giving up Undisputed. This is insane. I have no clue who is advising him but this make no sense.

The boxing world has been under the presumption that there was agreement between him Scull and the IBF to put off the fight so he wouldn't lose to the belt. How does that deal happen only for him to get stripped weeks later? What was the point of a step aside deal with Scull if he would end up getting stripped anyway?

The silver lining is that Scull and Shishkin will apparently be fighting in September and should be an interesting fight. But this just sucks for Canelo. He had a chance to continue to make history for consecutive Undisputed title defenses, but now he's thrown history away.

This is not cool. Fighting Scull as much of an unknown as he is would probably end up doing just as well as Berlanga. I mean maybe Berlanga is a little bigger, but at what cost? If you're Canelo or you're on his team, you do anything to make sure you remain Undisputed. Allowing yourself to be stripped like this is horrible. And if this is a miscalculation or miscommunication, that's inexcusible. He should have took my advice and fought Shishkin the #2 ranked IBF contender. Then again Berlanga is ranked #4 in the IBF so it's still a defense vs a highly ranked IBF contender.

I'm not sure who to be more upset with Canelo or the IBF. I'm going to blame both. This is incompetence. You don't end a record setting Undisputed Defense run like this. Shame on all involved.

Berlanga is the WBA mando. Canelo had to choose one and vacate one.

I think the concept of undisputed is being dragged out of proportion to the point of it simply being about holding an arbitrary number of belts.

The importance of becoming undisputed is so that there is a clear champion who everyone can say is the best in the division. Winning all 4 belts isn't a perfect criteria, but it's good enough. So winning all 4 is fair standard to achieve that status. But then having to hold on to all 4 just seems like an impossible standard for any fighter to maintain, and there doesn't seem to be any rational reason why we wouldn't just consider that fighter undisputed until they lose/retire/move up. Canelo shouldn't have to fight Skull, and not doing so doesn't invalidate the fact Canelo is the champion in everyone's eyes at 168. Fighters shouldn't be punished because of poor rankings management of the sanctioning bodies. As fans we decry all the crap decisions the 4 sanctioning bodies make. So we shouldn't then be holding those crap decisions in any regard where we're using said decision as any sort of unfair penalisation against a fighter such as revoking their consideration as the undisputed champ

Why not switch around the opponents of the main and co-main? Make Berlanga drain down to 160 to get outpointed by a geriatric Danny and just have a Canelo vs Erislandy rematch. Problem solved! Somebody should hire me as a promoter.

Canelo vs Lara rematch actually sounds more interesting than Canelo vs Berlanga. At least Lara is a more experienced fighter with a history of giving Canelo a tough outing.

Yeah, at least Lara has won a title and hasn't been mooching off of gift decisions for the last couple years :sisi1. Any of the Cubanos, Morrell, Iglesias, or Scull would be more challenging and interesting fights since Canelo has never been well known for being fleet of foot and they would all give him more issues than Berlanga would.

Canelo had his heart snatched away when Bivol gave him the ass whipping he has long deserved. Canelo's testes, which were not champions testes before, have shrunk to the size of peanuts. I sincerely hope all the real boxing fans here BOYCOTT this obvious mismatch con job. Let the debacle tank & lose$$$$$$

In a 100% fair fight, which Canelo never gives to any opponent, Lara really BEAT Canelo
