I agree with this but it also had a knock on effect on his popularity, he couldn’t sell his book, his career on paper is up there and rightfully so, but his appreciation is what it is because of his tactics.
Win at all costs, I get it and all that matters at the end of the day is the win.
But he has reaped the rewards of his spoiling style, and those are as minimal as they should be.
His inside work was as good as I can remember and his jab was underrated because he would always resort to shithousery rather than boxing.
For the career he had to have to pulp his biography says it all.

 

Come on man he had them all on the inside at some point and that was where he was most comfortable, he imposed his style on almost everyone even when he wasn’t roughhousing.
He was like Calzaghe in the respect that like it or not you fought on his terms, very different style wise but as imposing and dominant.
He beat Kessler, Froch and Kovalev x2 that is some resume on its own.
But he would try and split you with a leading head on the clinch if he was up on points.
This is sport of kings we are talking about here so let’s have it right, it’s not the done thing and he’s rightfully been given stick for it.

And yet the majority of the people who watched the first fight thought Kovalev won and if the second fight and the Kessler fight hadn't taken place in his hometown of Oakland it's not unlikely he would have been DQed against both with a fair ref. His legacy is a fractured one to say the least.

are you referring to ward cheating? If he is able to hide the dark arts then so be it lots of fighters have dabbled in dark arts to get wins, run down clock, buy time when rocked etc people only seem to complain when they don’t like it but turn a blind eye to others.

floyd mayweather was terrible for elbows but was able to hide them. Mike Tyson liked a sneaky elbow also

Hopkins was a very dirty fighter yet he’s well loved

So on YouTube I saw that I was subscribed to that channel and had no idea how. Turns out they took over the showtime boxing YouTube channel. Bizarre
