the truth is that Tyson quit boxing around the time of the fight with Spinks, and probably even earlier, got bored with it, burned out, did whatever he wanted and threw himself into the entertainment life. We can now say whether it was more about personal problems, addictions, reluctance to train, depression or anything else - what does it matter? If someone doesn't see that Tyson made a big regression after 1988 in terms of technique, fitness and mentality, it means he can't look at boxing. And the reasons for this are a completely different matter, honestly, it never interested me. The truth is, however, that 20-year-old Tyson was better than 25-year-old and 25-year-old was better than 30-year-old
Ali just beat him, he was all wrong for him and would beat him 100/100 times. The Second fight wasn't a dive, he knew that he would be beaten so he didn't want to continue fighting.
How is he wrong for Liston? Whats better against a runner than the best jab in boxing history? also, “he didnt dive! He just went into the fight not intending to fight and gave up right at the start!” Wow man your a fool…
it was an ALRIGHT punch, a hook while moving backwards can only be so strong. But is it enough to take down the man in one punch who beat MANY hard hitters? Absolutely not. Also, how does this explain him INSTANTLY getting up after? He was visibly not that injured.
It doesn't matter who punches harder but who is more accurate, precise and fast with punches. Liston punched harder than Frazier, yet Frazier beat Ali like a drum.
The personal stuff as an excuse is reasonable so was him being in prison if he showed rust after(he didn't). If you want to say he had a bad day against Buster fine. The idea Tyson started regressing at 22(you said 1988) and then proceeded to win most of his fights for the next 15 years is an excuse that wouldn't fly with anyone else. Tyson was a 5 ft 10 HW weighing 215-220 Tyson was always going to have trouble going the distance. But that vulnerability was there from the start it wasn't exploited as much because Tyson usually had built up such a cushion if his opponent was still around it didn't matter. Tyson didn't have the option of being a lean 190-200 he was a tank built to knock out larger men.
Punch as “precise” as you want, if theres no force it wont mean a thing. Conversely, a strong punch will do damage no matter where it lands. Also comparing Fraizer and Listons fights to Ali is like comparing apples to picture books about rapping elephants.
Ali knocked Bonavena who had great chin and menaged to KO Foreman who had chin much better than Liston. Boxing styles are there for a reason, Ali would always beat guys like Liston and Foreman.
He regressed technically during the 1989-1991 period but he was still in his prime and performed excellently. It was after prison that he was never the same, especially mentally. But even this post prime version was superior to almost everyone, which says a lot about his talent.
I know Foreman had quite a few after the Ali and Young fights, Also that five different boxers in one night fiasco. Azumah Nelson had a few . But no one in memory had the excuses of Dontay Wilder. That excuse of " my costume was to heavy" and it tired my legs before the fight ". Has got to be the absolute dumbest excuse in the history of boxing.
