Seriously. I remember when all the boxing magazines were hyping Grant like hell back in the 90s and he turned out to be a bust.

Grant's problem turned out to be punch resistance. Clearly, that's not Joyce's issue. Rather, he has no defense and just soaks up punches and is super-slow in getting his own punches off. Seriously, he makes 1990s George Foreman look like a speed demon!

Anyway, all those who hyped this guy have some serious egg on their faces. Just like all those who were hyping the **** out of Grant back in 1990s!

Joyce’s best pro career win was also the beginning of his end,yes Joyce brutally stopped Parker in 11 rounds however I can remember sitting watching that fight and thinking Joyce at this time may have one of the best chins in boxing but surely these punches he is eating from Parker tonight as well as big punches taken from previous fights surely will catch up with him at some point in his career,a fighter with his greatest asset being his chin and ability to eat big punches can not last forever, the very next fight after Parker along came Zhang and the rest is History .

Parker didn't really have much to do with it imo, he isn't a big puncher at all. Joyce just met a guy in Zhang who hits insanely hard, much harder than Parker anyway. His chin still looked as solid as ever tonight against Chisora. Chisora is also a bigger puncher than Parker with the right overhand.

Joyce would have fit right in with the likes of Buddy Baer and Abe Simon in the 1930's. Only reason he accomplished anything at all is due to his size, any decent CW sized man would have caved his face in yesterday.

No, you all missed the woods for the trees.

I was telling everyone who listened that Joyce was past prime when he turned pro.

He was a quality operator who has victories over Dubois and Parker. He looked absolutely peak against Dubois and that was the best we ever saw of him.

He's just too old. He's absolutely not over hyped.

People just thought he'd stave off father time because he didn't rely on speed and started late.

Joyce at his best was decent, but things can happen to change the course of careers, I think Joyce has declined more than Chisora, because obviously his confidence will have been knocked from the Zhang fights which massively affects your decisiveness and decision making in general in the ring, and on top of that, he’s had around -14332 Aura from those fights as well, so fighters won’t fear him as much.
The Zhang fight was definitely a bad style matchup, but even so, when your confidence is knocked down massively, you can struggle against anyone after that.

he always sucked...bad. slow, no defense, no iq. thats why i picked zhang to beat him the first time. i knew anyone with any timing, who didn't suck, would crush his melon. never understood why he was thought of so high around here. figured it was cause hes a brit, and thats what happens with brits.

I remember that hack, Michael Katz, writing in the Ring that Grant was "a colossus bestriding the boxing world" ready to take over and forever transform the heavyweight division. I think that neck brace he wore for over a decade (probably to win some liability suit) strangled out whatever gray matter he had.

Tbh we shouldn’t be this surprised, we’ve seen him take many flush shots against everyone, that big head is the only thing he has going for him.

Incredible how he made it as far as he has, even in the olympics. He’s absolutely terrible.

Joyce is a mystery to me. Beats a game but green Dubois. Beats Parker. Beats Takam, but honestly looks like crap in each. Just doesn't look very good, but keeps on winning. He has a good motor and chin, but that's about it.

He's the nicest guy in boxing, so I hate to see him go out like that, but it's time to hang em up.
