Crawford fought the best in his division PERIOD.... whether you as a fan consider it prime or them being a HOF/ATG means next to nothing being that 2 of those fighters (Gamboa & Spence) were top 5 p4p and UNDEFEATED when they entered the ring with Crawford. After what Crawford did to them, every excuse in the world was created to belittle Crawford's achievement. That's pretty much the norm for all of Crawford's opponents. Spence was suppose to be too big, too strong for Crawford as "Crawford isn't a real welterweight". Spence was bragged about like he was a superhero. Wins over Danny and Ugas after the accident, he was still talked about as being indestructible. Crawford ran through him. Gamboa was talked about and nicknamed the "Cuban Mayweather" or something goofy like that. He was supposed to have too much speed. Be too experienced for Crawford. We can keep going. Kell Brook was supposed to be too big for Crawford. Porter style was supposed to be too much for Crawford. Khan's speed and IQ was supposed to give Crawford trouble early like it did for Canelo......Crawford smacked these opponents around. Crawford's greatness is envied so much that people try to ignore everything he's done in his 40 fights to highlight the 2 times he visibly was rocked by a punch (vs Gamboa and vs Kavaluaskas) as if boxers aren't supposed to be punched. Ignore the fact Gamboa hit the canvas 4x on the way to a stoppage. Ignore Kavaliauskas getting walked down, rocked, and put down 3x following him hurting Crawford. There's an excuse after every win. Benavidez got shot in the leg 3 years before fighting Crawford. He fought 2 opponents afterwards before fighting Crawford. He passed a physical to be sanction for his fight vs Crawford.....in neither of the two previous fights did Benavidez wear a knee brace. I have footage of him sparring a young guy in our gym just 10 days before the Crawford fight. He didn't have a knee brace in the video either.....But after Crawford chopped him down and stopped him late, that was the excuse thrown out there as if Benavidez's style changed so much after the shooting that he was ineffective vs Crawford. It's even to a point that people will belittle Crawford's win vs a specific opponent but then use that same opponent as bragging rights for another boxer...... The excuse is that Gamboa was "too small or old" for Crawford.........But he was a highlight win for Tank Davis and Devin Haney whom both fought him years after Crawford. And neither of them dominated him in the same fashion. He went 12 rounds with Haney.... Tank stopped him in the 12th while Gamboa was fight leg from an injury he sustained in the 2nd round. What about Boots getting ultimate praise for beating Dulorme and Avaneysan. Crawford stopped Dulorme when he was a 135 pounder moving up to 140lbs. 6 years pass and he had only won 3 of his next 7 fights before fighting Boots. He was a "nobody" that Crawford fought, but vs Boots, he was an "experience fighter" and proof that Boots is elite at.......welterweight?.....Avaneysan.....even Eddie Hearn labeled Avaneysan as a "cherry pick" for Crawford.....but as an opponent for Boots, he was called a "world class fighter"........lol. Y'all claim to be a fan of the sport but hate a man who literally was raised by this sport and has done everything you want a fighter to do. There isn't a welterweight in history of this sport that Crawford wouldn't share the ring with and be competitive at the least.
You're right. I've witnessed Buds accomplishments get underrated massively on this forum and other sites. I agree with other posters that Pernell clearly better wins but Crawford did all he could do. The criticisms are regurgitated when they don't mean anything. Who else could Crawford fight at those weights ? Maybe Boots but Crawford moved up for Jermell at 154, now Canelo at 168. He's trying to make history
Damn. This content is protected This post is spot. ****ing. on. Bud Crawford is a generational talent and its a damn shame that a fair amount of fans MISSED OUT on his talent and his run because they were more STAN than FAN. Pathetic, really. Bud is competitive w even Sugar Ray Robinson. I dont think he beats the GOAT but Bud is a special fighter. He's not some champion of the month
This is a terrible post. Terrible. I don’t know where to start. First of all, I’ve literally said that: 1. Terence is a great fighter 2. I believe that it’s possible that he could have beaten members of the ‘Fab Four’ 3. That I’m a fan who thinks very highly of him. So I’ve no idea why you’ve posted this to me. Now regarding his resume, yes, he has fought absolutely everybody who he could have done. And he strikes me as being the kind of fighter who’d have loved to have fought guys like Floyd, Manny, Oscar and the Fab Four etc. However, even though it is through no fault of his own, he has NOT fought or beaten any prime HOF or ATG fighters. And that is a fact. Now that is extremely relevant, when you’ve got guys claiming that he’d have knocked out Pea with absolute ease, at both weights. Regarding the rest of your nonsense: I don’t recall anybody saying that Spence was indestructible. Or that Brook was too big, or that Khan was too fast. Now your last paragraph really takes the pi$$. “Y'all claim to be a fan of the sport but hate a man who literally was raised by this sport and has done everything you want a fighter to do” WTF are you talking about you lunatic?? Hate a man?? Again, I have literally said that I’m a fan who holds him in high regard. This is one of the worst posts I’ve read on here. You must have quoted the wrong person.
Terence is a great fighter, who’s doing all that he can. He even wants to fight Canelo for his legacy. However, there is nothing wrong in saying that he hasn’t fought any great fighters in their prime, when that’s simply the truth.
Damn? Too right, Damn! One of the worst posts that I’ve ever seen on here. More Stan, than fan? You are celebrating a post made by a guy who’s posted that absolute garbage to me, when I have literally told YOU how highly that I regard Terence.
Great post. Spot on. Crawford has dominated his opposition so much that people say that he hasn't fought worthy opponents. I thought this would change after beating Spence but it didnt.
He has fought worthy opponents. However, he hasn’t fought any prime ATG opponents. And that is very relevant, when some people are claiming that he’d easily have beaten greats from the past.
The weird thing about it is, they shoot down Crawfords accomplishments, but hype Boots and if you look at Crawford's career at the stage that Boots is at.... it's still not even close. At 32 fights. Boots has yet to actually win a world title in the ring, rather vs the hold or fight for a vacant title. He's yet to fight a single opponent who will EVER win a title in his division. In his first 20 fights, Boots fought just one opponent who didn't have a losing record and/or had lost at least 5 of his first 20 bouts. And he spent his entire career in one division. At 32 fights. Crawford had already won 6 world titles across 2 divisions. Was Fighter of the Year. 2x Lineal Champion. In comparison. Both of them at that point were/are calling for a fight vs one of the top names in the sport with Boots claiming he wants Crawford. Crawford was gunning for Manny. The difference is, Boots was offered the opportunity to fight Crawford twice and his camp turned it down. Crawford was kept from getting his opportunity by his former promoter. And the only time he actually got an opportunity to even attempt to negotiate was during the pandemic in which Manny demanded $40M in a time where fans couldn't even enter the area as everyone was fighting in the bubble. People's opinions aren't consistent and goal post is constantly being moved when it comes to Crawford. I truly don't understand it. As a boxing fan for 4 decades, every era I see a specific great who fans simply "refuse" to give the proper respect to. Crawford, Winky, Marvelous, Sweet P, etc.... Maybe Crawford gets his flowers when he walks away from the sport.... Or maybe the ridicule continues even more when he is too old to prove just how dominant he is over most in the sport.
It's a terrible post yet you openly agree with the point of my post. Does that make your response terrible as well. I don't know if I responded to the right person. I don't go back and look at the names. Maybe this post was suppose to be tagged to a different user, but regardless, what I stated was factual. Not opinions, and it's pretty ignorant to try to belittle his career because you want to label certain fighters "ATG's" simply because their careers have come and gone and they are still relevant as a talking point amongst blue blood boxing fans. You bring up Crawford not fighting any HOF in their prime........ First let's look at who on his resume that could possibly or for sure will be a HOF'er...... I would put Errol Spence Jr, Shawn Porter, Gamboa as for sure inductees. Then you have 3x world champion Ricky Burns, 2x world champion Amir Khan, & his countryman/rival Kell Brook as possible inductees. Now you talk about prime........ Undefeated Gamboa was 32 years of age and top 5 p4p at the time he fought Crawford. Undefeated Spence was 33 years of age and top 5 p4p last year when he fought Crawford. Leading up to the fight it was promoted as 2 kings of the sport in their prime. No one questioned if he was elite after wins over Danny or Ugas which were both after his accident in which he walked away from with zero major injuries according to reports. Shawn Porter is a month younger than Crawford and was on his pod cast discussing plans to rematch Thurman, Spence, & Ugas in 2021/2022 before getting mandated the Crawford fight. The excuse that "he was going to retire anyway" only came about when he retired AFTER getting stopped by Crawford. Amir Khan was 32 years of age when he fought Crawford. A year after outboxing Canelo for 3/4 rounds before getting clipped and stopped in the 6th round, Crawford put him down in the 1st and had him looking for a way out by the end of the 2nd. Kell Brook was 34 years of age when he fought Crawford. Corrective surgery on his eyes were highlighted as if that isn't a norm for FIGHTERS who've sustained massive blows to the face in their careers. It was 3 years, 3 fights, 3 wins, since the Spence fight and surgery. He had not only a full camp, but a full YEAR to prepare for Crawford as they fought in November of 2020. Crawford and Brook were face to face in January of that year talking about fighting each other. It was made official late summer. Ricky Burns was 31 years of age fighting Crawford. Had never been stopped or dropped coming into the bout. Feel free to give your definition of what you feel "prime" is so it fits your argument for Crawford not having fought any HOF in their prime. I'm not going to argue that these guys were all at their "peak" of their abilities fighting Crawford, but I'm not going to allow the ignorant argument that they were shells of themselves or less than world class boxers fighting him either. This standard that is being held for Crawford's opponents. Why isn't the same being done for other fighters. Let's saaaaaaaaaay Floyd Mayweather. A man who his fans consistently point out how many world champions and current HOF'ers he has a victory over....... With the same energy and standard.....why isn't the best names on his resume discredited and claimed to be "not in their prime"...... De La Hoya, Mosley, Manny, Gatti, Judah, etc....,Who can you point to that Floyd honestly fought at the peak of their career whom are HOFers today? I'd argue Hatton, Cotto,......I would say Canelo, but honestly I feel like Canelo became a much better fighter post Mayweather bout.
He should have changed after the Spence beating, but PBC supporting fans refuse to allow their "man" to be treated like a human who boxes. We saw Fury be discredited heavily for his win over Wilder after all the effort being put forth to discredit his performance. I expected the same thing to happen for Crawford and it happened. Crawford dominated.....and the excuses came in an avalanche. Funny thing is......Crawford told us what the excuses was going to be 5 years prior. In that video of him and Spence face to face, he said they was going to claim Spence was drained. He told us that he was going to stop Spence. He was willing to bet $1M with Spence that he would stop him.
I wasnt getting involved in your guys conversation. His isolated post was comprehensive and demonstrated how good Terrence was/is. Also touched on why he hasnt and wont get his due credit probably until after he retires. Spence went from the Big fish that whooped Floyd in sparring to being damaged goods and dehydrated (desite being undefeated and in his solely selected weight class...especially considering SPENCE delayed the fight since 2018...). The OP pointed out that Gamboa was a ducked and dodged fighter who was undefeated with an abundance of amateur experience and was going to outclass Bud...afterward Bud was too big...despite fact that Gamboa never moved down in weight - and, yes, Haney and Tank got "credit" from certain STANS for beating old, shot Gamboa w a torn ACL lmfao) Redeemed and inspired Porter and Brook were beaten in ways like never before. Hell, Crawford hurt Brook better than 160lb GGG did, but ofc those wins were also "cherrypicked"...despite fact that it was and has always been BUD that has been ducked. Hell, Bud even offered the new PBC STAN boogeyman Boots the fight in 2022 and Boots was "loyal to Showtime" and passed on that fight. And, yes, I'm aware Boots is not PBC anymore but its "that" fan base who keep bigging up anyone and downplaying Bud. Some weird racist ass mother ****ers. Is true that own kind can be the worst... Bud undisputed in 2 weight classes with ZERO close fights and ZERO ducks and is a 3 division champ going for his 4th division against yet another undefeated opponent. Boxing fans literally couldnt ask for a better poster child and face of the sport, but instead you got weirdos like @ellerbe and his kin that want to big up duckers and cherrypickers and catchweights and rehydration clauses and avoiding rematches...its pathetic.
Who are you referring to when you write out these posts. Who has ridiculed him? Who hasn’t given him props?
