The best version of each. Who takes it?

Ali in 15 but he would not bat 1.000 in a multi fight series. And honestly, I don’t know that this would be that exciting a fight, could be a jabfest.

Ali on points by razor thin margins.

Razor thin split decision going Ali's way due to his ring charisma.

Ali and Holmes exchaning jabs would probably be a better showing than most of the fights you could made today to be fair.

Alì UD but it might be one of his hardest if not the hardest fight he ever took tbh.

I have always considered this to be the best heavyweight fantasy fight, I could never decide on a winner in that fight...

It would be on the undercard to paint drying. Probably the only fight between two ATG’s in this weight class I wouldn’t watch if you gave me a Time Machine.

Anyway, I don’t see it as being close as most here are predicting. Though each would struggle with each others’ style, Ali is just so much faster. He won’t win easily, but he will do it clearly enough. 9-6.

Would 1940 Louis vs 1974 Foreman be more action packed enough to your liking?

Well yes, but so would John Ruiz vs Primo Carnera.

Why? Fights between two slicksters in their prime are great. What would be boring about it, other than neither of them having the power to hurt each other seriously?

They can be. I’d certainly be thrilled to watch something like Whitaker-Mayweather, for instance. But these two? They’re both going backwards & jabbing endlessly. Holmes is slower, so he’ll be trying to backpeddle to lure Ali into traps. Ali is faster, so he’ll step in, outwork Holmes & then step out again. There’ll be zero chance either man hurts the other, & no tension consequently. It’d be different with more interesting slicksters at the lower weights, but Holmes especially is a straight up & down jabber & mover, now in the position where he’s unable to outmanoeuvre & at times out jab Ali. You’d really want to see this fight? Based on what exactly?

1960s Ali outpoints him. Loses 1 by decision out of 3 rubber match.

FOTC to Zaire Ali loses a close decision, wins the next, loses 2 out of three overall.

    On-point analysis IMO.
