Not surprising really.. shame Fury dodged him, would have been a decent name on a **** resume if he got him before everyone knew he sucks... equivalent to Wilder actually.

In general I do agree with The Professor that Joyce was way overhyped - but there are fighters that JJ is a nightmare for. The dude is limited but he is very durable, has a good workrate and decent power. Combine that with a huge size and you're going to need either a huge punch or good evasion skills to hang with him.

Whilst I'm not disputing alot of what you have written, many UK based HWs often get stepped up very early in their careers that can shorten a career
Could it be possible that has happened?

Joyce started his career against Lewison
Fight 8 he is against Stiverne
    Fight 9 Ustinov
    Fight 10 Jennings
Fight 12 undefeated Dubois for the British title
    Fight 13 Takam
    Fight 15 Parker

It's a far tougher start than many HWs tend to do in other countries
American based HWs don't seem to get stepped up so quickly and don't have the pressure of the British HW title

I'm not disputing alot of what you have said above but seeing he has had so few fights compared to what Grant had had before stepping up, does it really look like he was all hype when he has 2 wins over 2 currently top 10 rated HWs which was in his first 15 fights?

Both Joyce and Grant were/are gutsy brave fighters

He beat down and KOed Parker and destroyed Dubois. He wasn't overrated at all, considering a segment of the boxing fandom where never going to warm to him. But the Zhang fights ruined him and he seems to have lost his fire or his drive in the gym or something. There's no way he should have lost to Chisora. That was just embarrassing and likely signals the death knell of his career.

At least Grant actually got in the ring and fought.

From winning the silver medal in 2016 to 24 months later, he was 5-0 (he was 0-0 12 months later).

His last amateur fight was eight years ago and he’s had 19 bouts.

Not like he was a spring chicken when he finished up at the Olympics either.

    No wonder he hasn’t progressed.

i wouldn't compare these 2. Who did Grant beat that was as good as Parker or Dubois?

joyce has a chin an resistance that will go down in history. honestly. we can talk about accomplishments but his ability to hold a shot while not blocking, framing, slipping is unreal.

but....that is the most ugly honour. to be an olympian, a world ranked heavy, wins over world champions before and after they won their titles and a millionaire*...his imprint on the sport is on the same level as Joe Grim.

we all watch boxing over all the eras. we can and have moans about early stoppages and boring safety first styles. say our condolances to those who die in the ring. distress ourselves watching fantastic athletic artististic hero's slowly declining into your man on the street. guys who almost famously never took punches have PD like benitez. and guys like foreman who would take shots but would frame and manipulate his opponants to worse angles. yet here he is. the human lava flow. his style is so strange to those who go fight him because the complete lack of caution means fients and traps mean nothing. the only way out is to time him and brawl with him and hope you come off the best in the exchanges.

It's almost not on. everybody here cringes at his style. for a short career he has taken close to a 100+ fight worth of punishment.

Grant on the other hand...wide, athletic, heavy hitter and sat well on his back foot. just never had the expereince on the inside till way too late. yes he was a bust. but joyce even in the ams was comical to see. grant at least tried to jab his way to win rounds. knew how to grab, knew how to cover up and find faults and flaws in his matches. not great. not creative or academic but understood a way to win fights and turn the tide. Joyce has none of that.

saying that though. price had a really nice run till thompson and glaz was a shocking injury. think there was a title for him had luck found him and fate dodged him.

what about tyrell briggs? first super heavy olympic gold medalist to never win a title.

Golota was arguably better but he was a headcase

I haven't been able to watch the fight yet. I honestly can't understand how the **** can Joyce lose a UD vs chisora. Did he get a heart attack in the middle of the ring?

I will not be able to watch that fight in weeks, so well.... I will have to wait.
