I saw it that way in real time and never saw or heard anything else to change my view.

I too saw it live and knew he was going to lose right as he entered the ring. Something had realy spooked him about Tyson beforehand.

Spinks was looking for a comfortable spot on the canvas the night he showed up against Tyson ( "Fight" should never be used for it)
It was all over his face before he entered the ring. He was already counting the money from the biggest payday of his career. Why try to make it look like he tried.
As for " Master class " in relation to Spinks vs Holmes.
I saw something completely different. I saw a old Holmes , who was completely out of shape, probably thinking its an easy payday. Holmes couldn't find the range with his jab, and didn't have the firepower to slow Spinks down.
I saw a serious miscalculation on the part of Larry Holmes.
And he wasn't going to get any favors because the vast majority of the media and judges didn't want to see him break Marciano's record.
So, all the cards were in Spinks corner, not anything "Masterful " about it.
If you want too see a truly " Masterful " boxing match between two prime, hungry, and talented boxers look no farther than Leonard vs Benitez...

Benitez was not what I would call hungry for that fight, & it was ruined by the head clash.

Spinks’s style was one of a kind. I wish people would shut up about Tyson. Spinks was a great fighter. To me, his greatest masterclass was against Cooney, which remains one of my favorite fights.

He had a herky jerky style all of his own which was actually an asset. He was an incredible light heavyweight and is well in contention for #! H2H of all time. His defense was so underrated. People started to really get the gist of what he was about when he outboxed Qawi in a superb technical performance. When you can box like that and have true one punch power in either hand you've got it made.

That's your opinion. But if you saw that fight,
it's more than obvious from the pace of it
Benitez was in great shape, and wanted to win
, his efforts are plainly obvious. ( the fight
    was 15 rds)
Thiers stories by the Benitez camp Wilfredo
    only trained for one week.
That's very unlikely from the pace and the
    length of the fight.
Unintentionally headbutts is part of the game.
It's happened in literally thousands of different
    fights.
It's only your opinion the fight was ruined by
it. In my opinion it wasn't.
