Bonavena was a lot better than Chuvalo, Ali is the only man who ever knocked him out, but it’s all a matter of timing. Foreman had like 21 pro bouts under his belt when he fought Chuvalo, he’d pretty much served his apprenticeship. The OP at least to my eyes was inferring a less experienced Foreman in this matchup.
Foreman was a gold medalist, he had more than enough experience, people would’ve been saying he wasn’t ready for Frazier too at the time.
Oscar Bonavena was tough as nails but honestly I think that his fighting style might play right into the hands of George Foreman
I think most of the Foreman picks are also thinking prime for prime. The OP says 1970. If anyone saw 1970 Foreman they would say, WTF!
In 1970, Foreman wasn't yet in his prime. Bonavena could be too experienced here. Of course, by 1973, Foreman dismantles any version of Bonavena.
It happened…it happened! Hank, you picked the more recent fighter! I’ve been privately waiting for this day since the fall of Rome.
George was very young and raw as a pro at that point coming off a very brief amateur carer as well ... that said he was still a physical freak of nature, so strong , much larger than Ringo , it's tricky .... Ringo could actually make efforts at boxing like he did vs Chuvalo and survive a while unlike Chuvalo who had one gear ... if Ringo lasted four rounds maybe his experience he hangs in and outposts George or maybe not ... an interesting fight, far more than if they met prime for prime ..
I don’t know about that. Foreman fought a dozen times in 1970 and beat the living dog shlt out of George Chuvalo and Boone Kirkman that year. Stylistically I think this is a bad fight for Oscar
Young Foreman goes life and death with Ringo like he did versus Lyle but even at a way tougher level. I am not even sure Foreman can prevail in this one. Ringo was tough as nails and could well go the distance gassing Foreman out of the fight. 50-50 chances
