This is going back to the early 90's, or even the late 80's. It was before eastern European fighters were a thing.

He was a good, solid cruiserweight prospect...I don't think that he had beaten anyone significant, but I believe he was undefeated. And he disappeared off the face of the earth. It was strongly suspected that he stood up fo the Russian mafia and paid the price. I read about him in KO magazine or its sister publication.

I know that is very thin but it has been eating at me since I made the Boytsov thread, since he likely suffered something similar.

    Thanks.

Sergei Kobozev I think it was. Yeah, he was good and unbeaten and then he fought Carl Daniels I think it was for the WBA Cruiserweight title and lost a decision and then he vanished but they found his body I think. Pretty good fighter and one of the first easter Euros to have success.

Thanks a million! That was killing me.

Going to research him a bit, now.

If I remember correctly (and I've been hit in the head a lot) he was working door at a club in Brooklyn and disrespected some mobbed-up Russian dudes. That's all she wrote.

Sad. Withs over Ruiz and Robert Daniels, this guy could have had a legacy. And he also beat Andrew Maynard, which is weird I don't remember him, because I took a liking to Maynard and always hoped he would do better.

Kind of funny how I got 90% of the story I thought I knew wrong. Time plays with your memory.
