I think Morrison is getting a tad overrated in this thread. Morrison got dropped twice by a past it Carl Williams, and also went life and death with two journeyman fighters Joe Hipp, Ross Purrity. I mean Holmes in 1994 came within 1 point of defeating Oliver McCall so he was still in reasonable form at this time. Holmes also had issues with right hands not left hooks which was Morrison's primary offense. I think Holmes would jab Morrison's head off and win a decision although a late TKO isn't out of the question.
Spot on analysis--with you 100% on your assessment! Even fighting in his mid 40's Holmes would still be too skilled for Morrison--he would neutralize his power and bust him with that jab the entire fight. UD or late stoppage for "The Easton Assassin."
Well, Mike Weaver bullied and was beating Holmes up but good before Low Risk Larry landed that lucky uppercut (and Holmes stayed far away from a rematch until Dokes beat Weaver and probably did well to do so), so it would not be out of the realm of reasonable possibility that Morrison could rough him up too. I rate Morrison's skill and power enough to get it done, but question that his durability was up to Weaver's though. The other thing- you know Holmes would train hard and be 100% ready. Morrison might train on Coors Light, Marlboros and Oklahoma Floozies. So there's that too. Larry might be the most professional and prepared Heavyweight Champion of all time.
I’ll say for the jillionth time, people on this forum are overly impressed if not absolutely bewitched by big punchers and put them way ahead of their skis as far as who they could beat.
"A tad overrated"? Dude is insanely overrated. Especially to anyone who was in the scene back in the 90's. Dude made Ring's Top 10 annual heavy list TWICE in the whole decade, both times at number 9. He was pretty much a non-factor, a guy who could sell tickets because of his complexion.
That's because people initially thought it was the 1992 version of Holmes if you look at the comments people in this thread are giving Morrison a good chance I do not see it however.
Morrison gets flash floored and outpointed UD for Holmes. If Larry beat a young, prime Mercer, Morrison loses in a mostly dull contest outside of a probable flash knockdown of Morrison.
If I had to bet, I would put my money on Holmes. Morrison fought great against Foreman, but Holmes was the master boxer and had a completely different style than Foreman.
