Who is the best American heavyweight right now?

US wont be in the heavyweight talk for a long time.

 

That's a depressing list now, don't think any of them rank in the top 10 anymore, is that a first? No Americans in the top 10 heavyweights is a new low.

And I didn't attend the fight and record it with my phone, either. Just a one-minute Google search. Because they sure as hell didn't bother to televise it.

No matter how bad anyone on that list is, can you imagine any of those other guys fighting someone that terrible THIS YEAR ... and then losing an eight-rounder to a 10-fight pro a month later ... and the crap they'd take for it?

Because that's what Hunter did. This year.

He's been a pro for 13 years, and he's never won anything and still looking like crap this year fighting garbage opponents like that.

Hunter ain't it.

Bakole beat Anderson and Yoka. Hunter doesn't get credit for Bakole's run.

 

Between 1908 (when Johnson beat Burns) and 2000, a US fighter held a heavyweight belt in every year except the two brief reigns of Primo Carnera and Ingemar Johnasson.

What an amazing run. Shockingly amazing.

In the first 24 years of this century, Ukraine has moved out in front.

Between Wlad, Vitali and Usyk, a Ukrainian boxer has held a world title in 15 of those first 24 years.

England is second, with fighters like Lennox, Fury and Joshua holding belts in 12 of those first 24 years.

For all the talk of how dead the US is, it's actually not far behind.

In fact, thanks in large part to Wilder, at least one US fighter (everyone from J. Ruiz, A. Ruiz, Brewster, Briggs, Rahman, Byrd, etc.) also held a heavyweight title ... in 12 of the first 24 years.

But that tie for second is over. No US fighter will hold a heavyweight title this year.

With Joshua fighting Dubois, England will enter 2025 with at least one heavyweight champ guaranteed ... making it 13 years out of the first 25.

And it may be a while before the U.S. gets back. The last time the US had all the heavyweight belts was in 2019.

That may not happen again.

But even if England and the Ukraine had a heavyweight champ in every year until the end of the 21st century, they wouldn't dominate the century like the US did in the last one.

What a great run.

Hunter lost. They had three official judges. A winner's hand was raised at the end. That's not an exhibition.

It's funny. Boxrec will list hundreds of "no-decision" fights and put "no-decision decision wins" in a boxer's "win" column ... when there were no judges on hand and no one's hand was raised at the end (because it was a no-decision).

But you get three judges scoring a fight, and a winner is declared, the winner's hand is raised, the loser's isn't ... that happens THIS YEAR and Boxrec decides not to include it.

So it goes.

 

I've been posting for years about boxing and it's near dead state in the USA. There are barely any good trainers anymore and the lack of people with the skills, will, discipline and talent is near non existent. Look at NYC, the city should be a breeding ground for great fighters because A LOT of people here are super poor now which should create hardened boys and girls but the first barrier from a teenager going to the gym is the cost of a gym membership plus these absolutely horrible hourly/session costs from a trainer, these poor kids can't afford to learn boxing because it takes years.

Show me a kid from the Bronx or Brooklyn who has the physical ability AND the finances to afford to learn how to box, do the math: $100 a session 3 times a week plus a gym membership times 5 years minimum before going professional = $72,000 or over $14,000 a year.

And i'll be honest, most americans that walk into the gym end up not going professional so it's a waste of time because boxing requires something 100% the time called discipline. And the argument that most of the boxing talent is going to the NFL and NBA is complete lies, we don't know if these men are mentally strong and if they can fight or not. Just because you are athletic or ram into other men's bodies running full speed doesn't mean you can take the fear of getting knocked out or severely hurt for 36 minutes max.

BUT

there is that fight in russia that is not official. but he lost against Artem Suslenkov...soo.....as a boxrec look and honours and merits. it is the new bounty. but had that loss been official and not run by that Cocksucking Piece of **** like my Cousin i can't even say their name.

 

i was saying this years back about Cam Awesome and Tor Hamer they could afford it or would at least game the system to be able to get the training, to commit to the lifestyle and allow themselves the ability to get to tournaments.
so you have to support yourself with a $30,000 a year job to side hustle in negative money just to level the playing field.

especially in the U.S. the local city gym have dissolved as cities have gentrified. it's a price of living problem. when a few dollars go you a meal, paid rent, it also paid for training. now though paid more training fees are beyond any comprehension of afforadable.

look back to that hbo commercial. the homeless guy scraping pennies to pay fees. that is nothing in comparison now.

then you have other sports that if you pay and play you get at least get a shout of pro or scholarship.

Well, from that list I'd first have to cross out every obese mess. Then I'd have to cross out all the past prime fighters. And then every talentless hack. That leaves two, Jared Anderson and Richard Torrez Jr. Losing to Bakole isn't so bad but crying to Roy Jones is so I'd have to go with Richard.
