 He doesn't set up or finish his combos with a right hook, either, which Mikaela Mayer was criticizing him for.

It's just setting traps with the 1-2, his entire game.

There's no such thing anymore. That was administrated by AIBA; they're banned from the Olympics. Not awarded in Tokyo either.

If you ask me, Khyzhniak. (and for the women, Harrington)

Damn, you are right.I could have sworn Andy Cruz won one

It makes sense Val Barker would go the way of AIBA. It's lineage traces back to 1930s. What a blow for boxing

Khyzhniak impressive as they came this Olympics.
I will catch remaining bouts soon.

Best female fighter? The Chinese Junior Flyweight. She whooped the heavily favoured Turkish girl good. Even dropped in a couple of headbutts (I thought IB would appreciate them) & rabbit punches for good measure. If that's not professional boxing material, I don't know what is.

Best bloke? Well it wasn't Jalolov. I had him losing the quarter final. And it wasn't the Uzbek Junior Middle either - I had him losing the semi. Just to show I'm not biased against Uzbeks, happy for their Featherweight to get it. He did beat an Australian fair & square in the semi. The Ukrainian who won at Light Heavy was very good but had more trouble with his Kazakh opponent than I expected. The Uzbek H/W was very good also. With the dearth of quality big men out there, he's worth keeping an eye on if he kicks off a professional career.

Story of the tournament was the Algerian & Chinese Taipei women's fighters. The Chinese Taipei fighter has been around for a while. She beat Skye Nicolson at the world championships in 2019 without anyone batting an eyelid. In this Olympics, it seemed to me that the source of animosity directed towards her & the Algerian was more than simply the gender issue. It seemed to me to be a racial issue as well which of course no-one would admit to. Happy to see them both collect golds in light of the crap they had to contend with.

Is it just that I didn't know where/when to watch.... ? Or did the NBC Network just totally bypass Olympic boxing coverage this time.....?

Oh right... they had to make time for synchronized swimming and breakdancing....

Is Jalolov finally going to commit to the pros or is he going to chase Felix Savon?

He won't and he knows it. He will get chinned out the gate. Another David Price. Pro's separate the men from the boys.

I'm not aware of any being shown on NBC. 100% from the Round of 32 on streamed on Peacock in the US.

57kg Uzbekh for me, technically best in the whole competition. Kellie for the women's best boxer. 50kg Chinese girl unbelievable too

Both have been around for ages to be fair. Khelif competed at the 2019 worlds as well, though didn't get very far. Hoping both countries actively leave IBA, tell them to go suck a ****, and join World Boxing. Absolutely disgusting the **** storm that Kremlev has caused, and the illogical arguments we're seeing from people, the BBC interview with the IBA spokesman was particularly hilarious when he seemed to constantly contradict Kremlev and IBA's doctor.

It appear's we've learned nothing. We've seen doctors suggesting the only way they COULD be innocent is to reveal their medical records - Since when did doctors every say something so disgustingly immoral? If a third party starting saying the doctors had full blown AIDS would they be jumping at the bit to release their medical records to prove otherwise?

The complete lack of understanding about chromosomes has been worrying, with so many admitting their education is based on that of a grade schooler. Science is complicated, XY females have had kids, XXY females have had kids, XYY males have fathered kids, XX Males find out when they try to have kids.

The idea they should have appealed to CAS is laughable given IBA were up against IOC on a CAS case regarding processes, governance and integrity, which IBA lost, and Kremlev spent the last few weeks calling Thomas Bach a sodomite. THATS the guy they are taking the word of? CAS also ruled that IBA shouldn't have disqualify a Dutch guy running against Kremlev in 2022, the CAS result was made moot as the result came in after Kremlev was re-elected with no one running against him, and Kremlev and his mates voted not to have a new election. If I was involved with IBA I'd not do anything with CAS either, when the flaunt the rules like that.

The complete lack of critical thinking, understanding, compassion and the like is really disappointing. It's like we didn't know what destroyed the career of Ewa Klobukowska. Really disgust in people right now. Hope some of them choke on their own hatred and ignorance!

World Boxing plans to grow amid bid to save Olympic boxing

PARIS -- The nascent governing body fighting to keep boxing in the Olympics is about to get a major membership boost.

World Boxing expects to expand its membership base to at least 50 national federations in the weeks after the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, president Boris Van Der Vorst told The Associated Press. The organization already has 37 members, including most of the top Western national federations.

Van Der Vorst said he is leaving Paris even more confident his sport can pull off "the greatest comeback story ever in the Olympic movement."
