Boxing at Paris 2024 (Les Jeux de la XXXIII Olympiade)

Both have been around for ages to be fair. Khelif competed at the 2019 worlds as well, though didn't get very far. Hoping both countries actively leave IBA, tell them to go suck a ****, and join World Boxing. Absolutely disgusting the **** storm that Kremlev has caused, and the illogical arguments we're seeing from people, the BBC interview with the IBA spokesman was particularly hilarious when he seemed to constantly contradict Kremlev and IBA's doctor.

It appear's we've learned nothing. We've seen doctors suggesting the only way they COULD be innocent is to reveal their medical records - Since when did doctors every say something so disgustingly immoral? If a third party starting saying the doctors had full blown AIDS would they be jumping at the bit to release their medical records to prove otherwise?

The complete lack of understanding about chromosomes has been worrying, with so many admitting their education is based on that of a grade schooler. Science is complicated, XY females have had kids, XXY females have had kids, XYY males have fathered kids, XX Males find out when they try to have kids.

The idea they should have appealed to CAS is laughable given IBA were up against IOC on a CAS case regarding processes, governance and integrity, which IBA lost, and Kremlev spent the last few weeks calling Thomas Bach a sodomite. THATS the guy they are taking the word of? CAS also ruled that IBA shouldn't have disqualify a Dutch guy running against Kremlev in 2022, the CAS result was made moot as the result came in after Kremlev was re-elected with no one running against him, and Kremlev and his mates voted not to have a new election. If I was involved with IBA I'd not do anything with CAS either, when the flaunt the rules like that.

The complete lack of critical thinking, understanding, compassion and the like is really disappointing. It's like we didn't know what destroyed the career of Ewa Klobukowska. Really disgust in people right now. Hope some of them choke on their own hatred and ignorance!

World Boxing plans to grow amid bid to save Olympic boxing

PARIS -- The nascent governing body fighting to keep boxing in the Olympics is about to get a major membership boost.

World Boxing expects to expand its membership base to at least 50 national federations in the weeks after the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, president Boris Van Der Vorst told The Associated Press. The organization already has 37 members, including most of the top Western national federations.

Van Der Vorst said he is leaving Paris even more confident his sport can pull off "the greatest comeback story ever in the Olympic movement."

It's a shame world boxing will need to win over about 50 more national federations, I BELIEVE they've some unofficial thing with Taiwan (Lin took part in a WB invitational), can't imagine Algeria sticking with IBA after the Khelif mess... But they'll probably struggle to turn Uzbekistan and China (Kremlev has buttered them up good and proper, China is his favourite country apparently and he's kissed the ass of the Uzbek guy), so it'll likely take a the IOC to recognise WB before those two join... At least... If Uzbekistan want to continue to win golds in boxing...

 

Didn't watch the boxing this year but if anyone did any of the boxers look good enough for the pro ranks I know us and UK only had one medalist each in omari Jones and Lewis Richardson they any good?

 

Omari Jones is good. I had him winning his fight against the Uzbek who went on & took the gold. The decision went 3-2 against him. The judges who went against him were from Slovakia, Morocco (this judge consistently scored against fighters from Western countries) & the Netherlands. The judges from the Philippines & Canada scored it to the American.

It's going to be interesting to see whether boxing stays in the Olympics. Boxing certainly pulls in the spectators & stirs the emotions like few other sports can. Including at Olympics level. It's hard, if not impossible, to see many more of the IBA-aligned countries joining World Boxing. World Boxing put on a tournament in the Netherlands a couple of months before the Olympics & all the IBA-aligned countries pulled out. World Boxing simply doesn't have that much clout amongst non-Western countries. The IBA has been paying medal winners & officials from those other countries big money to stay in line so they're not going to break ranks & suddenly realign themselves with World Boxing. Even under threat of expulsion of the sport from the Olympics.

I don't think there's much loyalty to boxing from senior officialdom within the Olympics. Notwithstanding the apparent popularity of the sport. Almost all of those officials have come from other sports. Many of them would be very jealous of how much attention (& funding) boxing receives without even trying. If boxing gets booted from the Olympics, that's money that can be redirected to other sports.

A third option (one that's apparently not being countenanced for Los Angeles) is for the Olympic Committee of the hosting country to organise a tournament (as occurred at this Olympics). That's not ideal b/c you get the draw being manipulated like it was in the Super Heavyweight division for this tournament to get the home country fighter through to the medals. On the plus side, I like Australia's chances of winning our first ever gold in boxing at the Brisbane Olympics if we get to organise the tournament.

 

Genuine 50/50 at the moment. Rumour is Japan is set to announce that it has left IBA on Sunday and will be joining WB, with suggestions that their announcement on Sunday is concerning the continuation of boxing at the Olympics. Would assume it's a domino in what will become several. But whether they get them quickly enough for 2028 is a big question.

 

I think what's going to need to happen to keep boxing in is more countries are going to need to switch & then when they reckon they've got as many as they're going to get, the International Olympic Committee will need to recognise the new body. When that occurs, others will come across even if it's only for the purpose of participating in the Olympics. That boxing hasn't been booted already indicates it's not completely friendless although I didn't like the noises coming out of the senior Australian Olympics official about boxing's future before the Olympics - 'it's on its last chance' or something like that. Mind you, he was a former coxswain in a rowing crew so what would he know about real sport? It's those types that scare me in terms of boxing's future at the Olympics. People who are used to barking orders but who don't know the taste of their own blood. Ironically, the gender controversy at this Olympics may have helped boxing's cause in that the IBA attempted to openly run interference on the Olympics in collaboration with Russia by carrying on the way they did. That may have created some resolve within the International Olympic Committee not to fold to that kind of pressure. I can't put a percentage on boxing's chances of getting through to Los Angeles. It will come down to the will of senior IOC types & presumably organisers of the Los Angeles Olympics. Would be a shame for boxing to go out when you consider how successful boxing was at the last Los Angeles Olympics. I think boxing at the LA Olympics is what's needed to give boxing a reboot in America. Several American Olympic gold medalists to follow will rejuvenate the sport over there in a way that's badly needed, imo.

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan just joined World Boxing and now the number of countries is 55. Seems like a good chance boxing can stay in the LA Games in 2028. Cool to see people mounting together for the good of the sport.
