Poor man's Donovan Ruddock? Or do you think he'd have been better than that? I see him as someone who may have crept inside the top twenty.
Like in this era he wouldn't win a title, I'd see him on the level of someone like a Herbie Hide, dangerous but also prone to being KO'ed easily. 90's was an era with a lot of big punchers, I don't see him getting into the top 5 like he did in this era for a period.
It is a decade where Shannon Briggs was the lineal heavyweight champion, because he kinda won it from a guy who already should've lost it to Axel Schulz. I don't think he would fail to hit the top twenty at some point, which is true of most top tens in every single era at some point. Even in the seventies, there were appearances in the top ten that were not exactly glowing contenders. Whyte quite likely would have to be in and out at some point in any full decade of competition, if you call that an era. The nineties are certainly no exception. I like Botha but I can' see why guys like Botha and Seldon are going to hold DW at the gate because the nineties were probably 2nd best of the division. We can't just wrap everything up in magic Lewis and Holy/Bowe barnburners. There were more than enough vulnerable guys in the top ten and GREAT guys who just plain dropped the ball against THOSE guys.
He'd of been game as he was/ is now. But I think he fares a bit worse generally in the 90's than he does in this era. He would have made for some fun fights for sure.
Whyte vs Morrison would be a fun fight. So would Golota, Rahman, Maskaev....Lots of chinny guys with power in the 90s, he'd fit right in.
I was watching some Whyte on YouTube last week and I'm not trying to be funny but does Whyte only have one decent punch? Apart from left hook, what else does he have? Commentators credit his jab but it's a pawing jab. He's an overachiever all things considered. He's done well, has Dillian, with limited talent and ability.
Like how he's done today. Beats a few overthehill former top fighters and contenders in close fights, gets smoked by the top guys.
worse Whyte seems to be weak to uppercuts. The 90's had guys with the best uppercuts - Lewis, Foreman, Bowe, Tyson and Morrison for right uppercuts and the likes of Ruddock and Foreman for left. Not a nice era for Whyte to be in. I am sure he would crack the top 10 at some stage, beat some solid contenders, but he wouldn't be the top guy.
