38 year old Walcott - Was Heavyweight Champion - Went 2-0 against a 29 year old Ezzard Charles in the past year with a brutal one punch knockout - looked pretty friggin good on film wouldn’t you say? That man fought like a savage to keep that belt
So you’d pick a roided PED Toney over Marciano? Sounds about right. Does Marciano get to inject himself with steroids in this matchup?
why is 220lb Foreman being brought up here? No one has claimed Marciano can beat Foreman. You even brought up a 235lb Toney caught using steroids to beat Marciano. My argument has always been in a p4p sense head to head, Marciano is one of the rings ultimate animals. Who beats him below 190lb? Holyfield is in for the fight of his life here.
Oddly Toney prob has a better shot at beating Marciano more than Holyfield who doesn’t have much of a chance. Tony’s slick style and strength of chin would cause him problems. Holyfield is to wide open to hit. No one other than Foreman is surviving that poor of defense.
Prime Holyfield would have destroyed any version of that wobbly, bobbly, slow-twitch, T-rex armed thalidomide baby. Absolutely ruined. Faster, longer, stronger, better shooled and hit harder.
Charles was a smaller version of the Holyfield who faced Brian Neilsen. Charles couldn't hang with prime Holy at heavy, especially that version that entered the ring against Marciano.
They were the same exact size at that weight b4 the roids. Except Charles defense was leagues better. Charles was better in every way
190lb Holyfield struggled with 5’6 T-Rex armed slow twitch Qawi… you want to revisit that opinion? Marciano didn’t beat on Bandy legged farmers from the 20s, he destroyed modern looking skilled fighters on film in any era who weighed 190lb
1954 Charles is a tough out for most 190lbers in history. Past his prime for sure, but he came off a spectacular kayo of Satterfield and looked fantastic in the first Marciano fight. Not the same leg speed or movement of 1949..but still had fast sharp counters, quick reflexes, great stamina, and brilliant skills. I think it was Charles last hurrah, and Marciano ruined whatever he had left. We’ve seen aging fighters throughout history put up one last great performance on film not sure why you bring up the 45 year old roided out 230lb Holyfield, don’t see relevance. Would love to hear more on his struggles vs 5’6 Qawi who made Marciano look like Kareem Abdul Jabar
So what you are saying is that for his 12th pro fight Holyfield took on a 9 year vet, a 28-4 guy who had already been in 5 title fights, (and who still had 3" of reach on Marciano), for a WORLD TITLE, while for his 12th fight Marciano took on 4-10 Gilly Ferron, the legend. Thanks for making my case!
U have this odd obsession with trying to make Marciano seem as if he’s unathletic. Couldn’t b further from the truth. Not to mention the extremely athletic men he beat. These guys could fight 15 rounds they didn’t get tired in 5.
