Early on, this poll was strongly in favor of Crawford, but over time it has flipped significantly and now it's about 75% / 25% in favor of Mayweather. I don't know if people changed their votes or if just naturally became more Mayweather dominant as more people voted (probably the latter). But what I would also say is that it's not unreasonable if we're talking the 2013 Mayweather who fought Canelo, which in my view was far and away the best version of Mayweather at 154-lb. I think if we take 2012 Mayweather who fought Cotto I see that as an less elusive version of Mayweather who didn't train as hard to fight Cotto as he did a year later for Canelo, and was easier to hit. And the 2007 version who fought De La Hoya, well, while obviously much younger, didn't utilize the kind of tactics he did against Canelo and was in my view, while more youthful and fundamentally sound, was also a more basic fighter than the later 154-lb versions of Mayweather 5/6 years later. So I don't really disagree that 2013 Mayweather could beat current Crawford, that specific version of Mayweather was incredible. It's my view though that 2012 Mayweather despite being a year younger doesn't do as well. He was easier to hit against Cotto than he was vs Canelo, was not as laser focused. Still I think any version of 154-lb Maywather, be it 2007, 2012 or 2013 struggles with current Bud and possibly loses.
It boils down to styles, it’s not about the older or younger version. Cotto and Oscar were better at cutting off the ring and utilizing their jab to disrupt rhythm better than Canelo even though some may argue Canelo is better than both of Oscar and Cotto. Floyd has never been a basic boxer, get that bull**** out here. Overall, Crawford is a great boxer and a current top 3 P4P, he’s simply not on Floyd’s level in terms of overall skills and IQ.
You misunderstood. I was comparing Floyd to himself, 2012 against Cotto to 2013 against Canelo and saying the version of him that fought Cotto was more basic and easier to hit than the far better version of himself against Canelo. Against Canelo, he was in better shape, faster, sharper, he used advanced evasion techniques, he was far sharper, far faster. Against Cotto he fought in a more basic style than he did a year later against Canelo. That's the point. I wasn't saying that Floyd was a "basic boxer", obviously he wasn't even against Cotto, but relative to his condition and performance against Canelo, he was more basic, easier to hit against Cotto. That's why I posed the question, to rate present day Crawford against 2013 Mayweather.
Kid Spence beats up Floyd in sparring and all you have to say is...Floyd would get a lil trouble. Madrimov flat out beats Floyd...who else struggles significantly w "akward" fighters. Floyd would be in tough versus Porter whose head first style and massive size advantage would cause issues. Kell Brook wouldve been live as well as Postol. I wouldve liked to see Gamboa too. And I mean the undefeated Gamboa and Postol. Not sure Floyd beats the guys Crawford beat when he beat them. Crawford beats and possibly stops 38 y/o Mosley and flat-out stops 33 y/o Cotto at 154. Crawford stops undefeated Hatton and outboxes 22 y/o Canelo at 152 (Floyd catchweight). Crawford also beats 35 y/o Manny (2015) who was nowhere near as explosive or dangerous as 2009 version that Floyd ducked. Crawford beats and possibly stops Maidana, Victor Ortiz, Ghost, and Judah. Strangely enough I think Crawford could lose to DLH even the past-it version Floyd fought. Crawford's best weight is not 154 and DLH was packing steel. He also had both underrated boxing and adjustment ability and - most importantly - wouldve retained Floyd Sr as trainer...instead of Roach. Crawford beats everyone Floyd fought (the versions he fought) except for maybe DLH. Floyd beats everyone Crawford fought except for Madrimov and Spence. I would need to see Floyd beat Porter and Postol as well as Gamboa.
Floyd wouldn’t get touched by Bud. He would just outbox him and make him look like a joker. On what basis does Bud even belong in the same category? Even if he went undisputed at 154 he still wouldn’t be top 15 of all time. It’s not really about the accomplishments on paper, it’s about who he beat. Floyd is just better on paper and in the ring. Pacman would kill Bud too. He doesn’t belong up there, never will.
