Morrison threw almost exclusively to the head. Marciano hit everywhere. Ferguson & Wilson shelled Mercer with a consistent body assault, but Marciano can’t?

What's your definition of elite then ? Mercer was a top 10 ranked Heavyweight for 6 years and would be in the top 10 most notable Heavyweights of the 90s as I said.

When I mean elite I'm not calling him great or one of the best Heavyweights of that era it means i'm saying he was a world class Heavyweight.

Again though where is the logic behind 185 pound Marciano out brawling an iron chinned 230+ pound Heavyweight ? I'm not seeing it myself.

Marciano beat all the world-class Heavies of his time. Drastically inferior fighters beat Mercer.

Marciano beat world class Light Heavyweights and Cruiserweights not Heavyweights by modern standards and all of his notable wins were considerably past their best.

Again people forget we're talking about two totally different eras Marciano is not a Heavyweight by modern standards. He would be fighting against the likes of Beterbiev and Bivol in the modern era.

How is Marciano going to out brawl an iron chinned 230+ pound world class Heavyweight ? People are favouring Marciano and not looking at the fact he would be outweighed by 50 pounds. Marciano's swarming style isn't suited to fighting against bigger stronger Heavyweights he would be up against brick walls that he couldn't knock down.

Let's put this a different way. Would Roberto Duran at Lightweight beat Marciano?

People are too nostalgic at times and don't think about these match ups logically. Don't get me wrong I prefer the older era especially 70s, 80s, 90s.

But there's a reason no Heavyweight with Marciano's attributes have existed in the modern era as a top class Heavyweight simply because Heavyweights are far bigger now.

In what world is a 67 inch reach 185 pound Cruiserweight going to out slug world class Heavyweights with 40-50 pound weight advantage ? It's simply a fantasy.

Names matter more than most things in people's minds.

Mercer himself said that Tommy hit him so hard to the body that it made him fart. His main comments on Tommy post-fight were regarding the body punishment Tommy dealt out.

    Do your homework.

I can't find the amazing version of Marciano who could hang with post-modern heavies the like of Mercer. I see him as a Bobby Crabtree level heavy in the 90's landscape.
